Twenty-Six Lists - National Parks - #twentysixlists

Welcome to Twenty Six Lists! I hope you'll join me in using some fun List prompts for writing. Every other week I'll share a writing prompt and invite you to link up your list, and wherever the prompt takes you. You may want to simply make a list of five or ten items that answer the prompt, or you may elaborate on the items in your list, or even write an entire article. Be creative, and have fun!

Many years ago, I thought it would be a great goal to visit all the national parks in Canada and the United States. A huge challenge, as there are forty-six parks in Canada and sixty-two in the US! But you have to start somewhere, and having visited quite a few while growing up, I hoped to consistently add parks to my checklist over the years. Well, I have a LONG way to go! Here are the parks in the two countries that I have visited:

List #11 - National Parks
  1. Arches National Park in Utah - Visited on a family vacation when I was a kid. We didn't get to spend nearly as much time there as I would have liked - it's fascinating and beautiful and I hope to go back someday!
  2. Badlands National Park in South Dakota - I've driven through this area many times and have stopped or stayed overnight a lot of times too.
  3. Everglades in Florida - We visited Everglades as a family several years ago on vacation. So interesting . . . and so very hot! Hopefully we can go back sometime.
  4. Glacier National Park in Montana - another that I visited often during my growing up years, and was able to visit with my family again a few years ago.
  5. Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina - We've driven through a few times and stopped briefly, but have only scratched the surface of this huge park. I haven't been to the Tennessee portion of the park at all.
  6. Mesa Verde in Colorado - This is one of the most interesting places I've ever been! I visited on a family vacation when I was a kid and was fascinated by the cliff dwellings. This is a must-see if you're in Colorado!
  7. Mount Rainier in Washington - Visited a few times during my growing up years. Beautiful!
  8. Shenandoah in Virginia - This is another park I've driven though many times, and have made a bunch of stops, but there's a lot more still to explore!
  9. Yellowstone in Wyoming, Montana, and North Dakota - I absolutely loved our trips to Yellowstone when I was a kid and the visit with my husband many years ago was not nearly long enough. This huge park has so much to see, and it's another one that I hope to return to!
  10. Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada - This was Canada's first national park, and since it was about an hour's drive from where I grew up, I have spent tons of time here. In fact, we honeymooned in Banff!
  11. Fundy National Park in New Brunswick, Canada - We visited Atlantic Canada on a family vacation several years ago and made a stop here. The Bay of Fundy is famous for its dramatic tides.
  12. Glacier National Park in British Columbia, Canada - Yes, Canada has its own Glacier park, and it doesn't even border the one in the US. This is one we drove through a lot since it's right on the Trans Canada Highway.
  13. Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada - More mountains! This is north of Banff and is one we visited a lot when we lived in Canada, but not as often as Banff.
  14. Kootenay National Park in British Columbia, Canada - Also mountains! And Radium Hot Springs. And yes, another we visited often.
  15. Mount Revelstoke in British Columbia, Canada - I remember visiting on family vacations, as this is also right on the Trans Canada Highway.
  16. Prince Edward Island National Park in PEI, Canada - On our Atlantic Canada trip a few years ago we spent several days on PEI and visited this park. Wish we'd had more time to view all the gorgeous coastline!
  17. Waterton Lakes National Park in Alberta, Canada - This is the park in Canada that borders Glacier NP in the USA. Mountains, lakes, and some prairies.
  18. Yoho National Park in British Columbia, Canada - You guessed it, more mountains! This park is connected to Banff and Kootenay, and at the very least, you'll drive through it on the highway!

That is a decent start on them! I always want to see more and re-visit place we've been too. But then that makes it so hard to cross new items off my list.

I love comments! It's like visiting over a virtual cup of coffee.
