Twenty-Six Lists - Relax and Refresh - #twentysixlists

Welcome to Twenty Six Lists! I hope you'll join me in using some fun List prompts for writing. Every other week I'll share a writing prompt and invite you to link up your list, and wherever the prompt takes you. You may want to simply make a list of five or ten items that answer the prompt, or you may elaborate on the items in your list, or even write an entire article. Be creative, and have fun!

Before all this coronavirus stuff, I'm not sure I would have pictured staying home as a particularly stressful thing. Turns out not having anything at all on the social calendar is just as stressful as being too busy and run ragged. The reality is that there are always things going on (or not going on!) in our lives that can get us frazzled, anxious, wound too tight, weary, and exhausted. When I need to chill or renew my energy - or both! - these are some the little things that work for me:

List #10 - How to De-stress or Recharge
  1. Relax with a good book. I almost always do a little reading before bed, even if it's just a couple pages. Bonus is when I can do some reading in a hot bubble bath!
  2. Naptime! Sometimes taking even ten minutes to lie down and close my eyes is all it takes to give me a reset to get through the rest of the day. I love naps! Of course, it's not foolproof, because too often I let my siesta last way too long.
  3. Coffee break with a friend! Or a glass of wine and a visit. Planning a time to get together with a friend or a small group of friends gives me something to look forward to (I lean extrovert) and the relaxed time for conversation is an excellent de-stresser. Serious discussion and some good laughs are included in every get-together.
  4. Fresh air and flowers. Okay, I'm not really an outdoorsy person. But everybody benefits from fresh air! Just opening windows, sitting on the porch for a bit, or even walking up to get the mail are enough of a break to refresh me. I like flowers and gardens, but I do not like yard work of any kind. Just being honest. Some people find it therapeutic to dig in the dirt and work on the garden, but I am NOT one of them. Early this year I thought about how happy it made me to have a vase of flowers in my dining room, so I decided that I was going to make that a habit. I would always have some kind of fresh flowers in the dining room. Spending a few bucks on a cheap bouquet every week or two has been totally worth it. I need a fresh one right now though, to be honest.
  5. Scripture and prayer. I am listing it last, but obviously it's the most important. Reading the Bible every day and talking to God about anything and everything that stresses or wears me out - if I don't do those things, nothing else would make much difference.

I think I am one of the few people I know that just can not nap.. if I nap I feel so groggy and sleepy for the rest of the day.

That's what happens to me if I mistakenly sleep too long when I take a nap!
