One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.

endure hardship
endures forever

Okay, I don't want to endure. Enduring doesn't sound like a good time - it sounds hard and painful, and who's a fan of that? Not me. I understand that it's necessary and that we often don't even have a choice in it, but I don't like it.

The word endurance initially made me think of all those hardships and sufferings and pain that we need to bear while we are on earth, and it was pretty discouraging. But then I did a quick search of the word "endures" in the Bible and found out something interesting. You know what "endures" most often in Scripture? God's love. Followed by God's righteousness, faithfulness, renown, kingdom, and word. God himself is eternal and his qualities are eternal, so if anything will endure forever it is his love!

That changes the perspective. It means that I don't have to endure anything on my own. If I trust God, he provides the patience and strength.

Those who trust in the LORD are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever. ~Psalm 125:1

It still doesn't sound like fun, but there's hope and comfort in the promise that God's faithfulness that endures forever will outlast anything negative that happens, and we can rely on his strength to carry us.

For the LORD is good and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations. ~Psalm 100:5

Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his love endures forever. ~Psalm 136:1

Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations. The LORD is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does. ~Psalm 145:13

Now that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for each other, love one another deeply, from the heart. For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God. For, "All people are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field; the grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord endures forever." (Isaiah 40:6-8) And this is the word that was preached to you. ~I Peter 1:22-25
