Five Minute Friday - Your

One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.

it's all yours

Forgive me if the first thing I thought about when I saw the prompt "your" was how annoyed I get when I see people mix up "your" and "you're". It does irritate me. Sorry. "You're" is a contraction of "you are" and "your" is a personal possessive pronoun.

Personal possessive - it designates something as belonging to you. What belongs to you?

Not long ago I offered up some homeschool curriculum we didn't need any more to other homeschoolers in my area. A friend asked questions about one of the resources and how much I wanted for it. I made the decision that since she was my personal friend and since we'd received our money's worth from that set of books, I didn't need to be paid for them. So I said, "they're yours". I gave her the books and that was that. I've often been on the receiving end of similar transactions. Someone can offer me something I need and instead of demanding payment or anything in exchange, the giver simply says, "it's yours".

God offers forgiveness and salvation to us that way. When we recognize that we need his mercy, he reminds us that Christ has already paid the price on the cross, and says, "Forgiveness and freedom is yours". We don't have the strength or wisdom to get through life on our own, but when we turn to God for help, he's got all the resources we need and he says, "all that I have is yours".

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. ~Mark 11:24

I can't resist ending on this very light note though. We spotted this sign in Hamilton about two years ago and I've always just hoped that the store is owned by a Mr. Your!
