Five Minute Friday (on Sunday) - Beyond

to infinity - and beyond!

We constantly find ourselves in situations that don't have easy solutions, and having to make decisions where there don't seem to be any good options. Or in circumstances where we don't seem to have any choices and just have to hang on. This past week good friends of mine faced circumstances beyond their control and it was both frustrating and terrifying.

What do we do when we have no control? Where do we turn when we are out of options? We can pray and we can turn it all over to a God that has resources and wisdom that are beyond our wildest dreams. The hard part can be trusting him with things that are beyond our ability and understanding.

Sometimes his answer is not what we would have chosen. It's heartbreaking, but as I see this friend grieving I also see peace and joy that come from trust in the God who comforts. Sometimes the answer is what we hoped and petitioned for, but is so much more amazing and gracious than we could have dreamed. We see how pieces were being put in place and that miracles and healing were performed, and we rejoice in a God who is good and merciful beyond anything we could comprehend!

What if what God has for us is bigger - beyond what we can imagine? What if his plan for us is beyond our comprehension? What if there's more going on, so much more, than we can conceive of? What if our troubles and trials are small compared to the joy and reward God is preparing for us? Can we trust him when he promises that it is so? Our God is bigger and more powerful and more loving than what we can understand, and the small glimpses of glory that we can see should bring us to our knees in reverence and awe. Or cause us to surge to our feet with shouts of joy! Or both!

And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord's holy people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge - that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.  ~Ephesians 3:17-21

Praying for your mates.

Sometimes there are no decent choices,
nowhere good to turn for options,
thinking God don't hear our voices
and is paddling our bottoms.
But that is not, no, really true,
we're stuck in world beyond the fall,
and everything God wants to do
truly sometimes hits a wall
that we erect of foolish will,
'cause we think that we know it all,
and then we drink our nauseous fill
of drunken punch at Satan's ball
while God’s forced to wait, face grave
for our last appeal to save.
