Five Minute Friday - Fix

One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.

if it ain't broke, don't fix it
a quick fix
just fix the problem
fix your eyes on the prize

********************
So many things that need fixing. It's overwhelming. There's the big, obvious things in the world and on a national level, and that's a huge list. One I don't even want to consider because my influence on it is limited. There's also stuff that needs fixing in my community, my workplace, my church, and my home, where my actions have more impact. So what do we fix? And how?

We have a vehicle that doesn't work sitting in our driveway. It needs fixing, but it's not my job. Nothing I can do there except remind, encourage, or possibly offer some financial assistance. We have projects and clutter and different things in the house that aren't necessarily broken, but some of those things represent problems that need to be fixed. A priority that needs adjusted, a habit that needs to be changed, or just a situation that needs to be addressed and looked after. When those things are my responsibility, I need to fix what I can. And often I need to fix my priorities and attitudes that are the root problem, otherwise it will probably show up again.
I don't fix problems, I fix my thinking. Then problems fix themselves. ~Louise Hay
Fixing my thinking might mean adjusting my attitude and perspective so that minor things don't steal my job or crowd out the bigger picture. Fixing my thinking and then the problems often requires me to fix my focus. Fix my eyes on the prize. Focus on the goal and the purpose and things do tend to fall into place.

For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. ~II Corinthians 4:17-18

And that adjusted focus helps us see more clearly how to pray and address those bigger issues as well. Many of those things that need fixing are not my job, but I can definitely pray. Check my attitude and where I'm putting my faith. And then remind, encourage, offer assistance.

Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. ~ Deuteronomy 11:18
