Five Minute Friday - Sunrise

One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.

every day a new sunrise

Life was not intended to be simply a round of work, no matter how interesting and important that work may be. A moment's pause to watch the glory of a sunrise or a sunset is soul-satisfying, while a bird's song will set the steps to music all day long. ~Laura Ingalls Wilder

I used to joke that if God had wanted me to enjoy the sunrise he would have made it later in the day.

I'm not a morning person. Or at least I never used to be a morning person. I slept as late as possible, hitting the snooze button again and again, and very often wound up rushing frantically to be ready for school or work on time. And yes, often I was late.

But after many years of getting up early to see my husband off to work it's not so easy for me to sleep in any more. I still enjoy the occasional lazy Saturday morning or purposely late start to my day while on vacation, but my habits have been changed. I enjoy having some early morning time to myself most days. Whether a few minutes or a couple hours, I savor a bit of quiet to read my Bible and sip my morning coffee.

And the bonus? I usually get to see the sunrise. Or if I miss the actual sunrise, at least I can watch the daylight creep across the sky, since my window actually faces west. The beauty of it sometimes takes my breath away, no matter what the weather. The chilly sparkle on snow and ice, or the pastel promise of a beautiful spring day. The soft diffused light on a foggy autumn morning, the bright jewel tones on a clear day, fluffy white clouds glowing pink, or even dark storm clouds with a hint of warm color.
Next time a sunrise steals your breath or a meadow of flowers leave you speechless, remain that way. Say nothing, and listen as Heaven whispers, "Do you like it? I did it just for you." ~Max Lucado
The sun rises every day, and no matter how gloomy the weather, it cannot completely hide or darken the sun. Every day represents new possibilities, and no matter how badly I've failed before, God's mercies are new each morning. No matter how grim the circumstances, God is still in control and still worthy of praise.
From the rising of the sun to the place where it sets,
the name of the LORD is to be praised.
~Psalm 113:3~

Let us acknowledge the LORD;
let us press on to acknowledge him.
As surely as the sun rises,
he will appear;
he will come to us like the winter rains,
like the spring rains that water the earth.
~Hosea 6:3~

I have always been an early riser & never understood how people could sleep in. My best friend is a night owl and quite often she has only been in bed for a couple of hours when I get up to greet the sun.

Love the sunrise pictures.

Beautiful post! I loved your thoughts, quotes, photos, and scriptures. I used to not be a morning person either. I have to get up early now with kids. I love sunrises, although I don't always get to see a lot of them. The sunrise ushering in the morning always makes the day feel new and fresh.

Yes! Sunrises are so hope-filled and beautiful. I love spending time with God in the early mornings before the busyness of the day takes over.
