Online Book Club: May Theme - Spring

I've been joining some blogging friends in an online book club, and all our readers are invited to join in as well. Here's how it works:
At the beginning of the month Amanda at Hopkins Homeschool will share a book theme with us. It will be a theme instead of any specific title, so that anyone can participate - moms, dads, teens, kids, or the whole family. During the month, we will read books that go with the theme, and at the end of the month we'll share about what we read. Homeschool families may want to do unit studies or activities that go with the books they read, and they can tell us all about what they did and learned. Adults and teens may just want to share book reviews.
Visit Hopkins Homeschool to find out more about what she has planned!

Spring is a pretty broad theme. Should I read a novel that takes place in spring, or has the word "spring" in the title? Should I read about planting a garden or about spring flowers? To be honest, my to-be-read pile is very high right now so I was reluctant to add new novels to the stack. Besides, nothing was coming to mind and none of the novels in my existing queue seemed to fit the theme. So I've been hoping for inspiration for the past several days.

Then I realized that a purchase at Ollie's Bargain Outlet on Sunday might work out just fine. I happened to spot a book titled Beekeeping: A Handbook on Honey, Hives & Helping the Bees by Joachim Petterson and it was only a few dollars so I bought it. You see, I've been considering getting some hives and trying my hand at beekeeping. I took an introductory course online last year, put all my plans on hold when we were considering having some of the wedding festivities in our yard, and now I'm thinking again. Hard to say if I'll really do it - it's not a cheap hobby to start with! - but I've got another book to browse through to help me decide.

The other thing that kept rolling through my brain was how badly my house needs a thorough spring cleaning. It really does, and although I did some cleaning pre-wedding, I didn't finish and now it's high time to get on it! So I started browsing titles on my library website, and this one caught my eye: The Inviting Life: An Inspirational Guide to Homemaking, Hosting and Opening the Door to Happiness by Laura Calder. My attention was drawn to the part of the description that said, "getting yourself motivated for spring cleaning". Okay, challenge accepted, Laura Calder. Please help me get motivated for spring cleaning. And some other stuff in the description looked interesting too.

I will make you this promise: I will not read either of these books cover to cover before the end of the month. I'm unlikely to even try. But they are both the type of books that I can browse through and find the parts that interest me or are relevant to me right now.

What are you reading this spring?

Visit all the participating bloggers sometime during the month to find out their reading plans:

Beekeeping would be quite an interesting hobby. Quite a decision, I imagine. I need to do some spring cleaning, too. Maybe I should look for the other book if it is inspiring to you.

Best of luck on the bee keeping if you decide to give it a go. My husband's uncle has been an amateur beekeeper for a little while now and while he loves it he does get frustrated with it from time to time.
