Five Minute Friday - Quiet

One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.

quiet time
peace and quiet

********************
My house seems very quiet this week and I'm not sure how I feel about it. The adult kids that live here have all gone to visit their oldest brother so it's just me and my husband. And the cats and rabbit, but they don't make much noise. It's rather peaceful. There seems to be more time and less pressure, because it's just the two of us that need to go anywhere or have meals.

This is a little preview of what it will be like when we are truly empty nesters. When we will finally have "peace and quiet". We will have quiet, I suppose, but will that necessarily mean we'll have peace? Do we need quiet in order to have peace? I don't think so. The two are not always related. I do have peace now, in the quiet, but I also have peace amid the chaos and noise that often characterizes my house when everyone is here. I think sometimes I feel most at peace when all the kids are here, along with my granddaughter (who is full of energy and is not always quiet about it!); or when we have a houseful of company and there is lots going on.

Peace is when it's quiet in my heart. That's why we are able to have peace that passes understanding, and why we can be at peace even during uncertainty or in the middle of the world's chaos.

I am enjoying my quiet house for now, but I will welcome all my people back with all the accompanying activity and busy-ness. My peace won't leave when they come back. Someday they will all move out and some of the noise will go with them. My peace will remain no matter who lives here or how quiet or noisy my surroundings. Because my peace comes from God, who quiets my soul with his love.

The LORD your God in your midst,
The Mighty One, will save;
He will rejoice over you with gladness,
He will quiet you with His love,
He will rejoice over you with singing.
~Zephaniah 3:17~

I love this! I am an empty nester - and it is quiet! But I also have peace because God is my peace as well. Even when all the kids and grandkids are here and it's crazy, God is my peace. Nicely written. Visiting from next door at FMF#28

Beautiful. And I fully agree - peace is quiet in heart, not in surroundings.

Kym, hi! I love all things quiet, gentle, and peaceful ... I hear Him speak more clearly in the calming stillness.
