With just over a week to go, July has been another crazy month full of good things, not so good things, and some surprises. Time to find Something Loved, Something Read, Something Treasured and Something Ahead to share from among all the weird and wonderful developments! I don't really have photos to go along with my four somethings so maybe I'll just stick a random photo or two in to make it interesting.
Something Loved
So this is a little different, as it's not something I fell in love with as much as something that I liked so much better than I expected to. Last month I was finally able to see specialists about two problems I've been having - my knees, particularly my left knee, have been causing trouble for a long time and have been getting worse; and more recently my left foot has been very painful. It was confirmed that my arch has collapsed and the only real way to address that is to wear shoes that adequately support it. Quality arch support shoes are not cheap, and they're not really known for elegance and attractiveness either. My days of cute, cheap shoes are basically over. I purchased a pair of supportive athletic shoes to wear for work and for any serious walking, and I insisted on finding a pair of sandals or flats that would be supportive but look good enough to wear to church or out for an evening. Something not ugly. I settled on a pair of sandals that weren't my favorite but I thought they would work. And they are really comfortable and I like them SO much better than I realistically thought I would! Shout-out to Vionic for making good looking and supportive shoes!
Something Read
I completed four books during the month. You can see more about my reading in my Monthly Bookshelf Review for July 2021 which should be live at Just A Second in a couple of days.
Finished and reviewed:
The Scarlet Pen by Jennifer Uhlarik
Between the Wild Branches by Connilyn Cossette
The Inviting Life by Laura Calder
A Grave Matter - Anna Lee Huber
Currently Reading:
The Only Woman in the Room by Marie Benedict
A Study in Death by Anna Lee Huber
Britfield & The Rise of the Lion, Book II by C.R. Stewart
North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell
Something Treasured
Something Ahead
Knowing that God hears our prayers and that he is in control. Goodness, with so much turmoil and uncertainty in so many everyday things nowadays, what a comfort it is to remember that God doesn't change! And he has not been taken by surprise in any of the crazy twists and turns of the past year or so.
Something Ahead
It seems I repeat a very similar refrain in this section month after month. Kennady's enrollment at the university has been the "something ahead" in some form or fashion for quite a long time now, but there's always a new variation as we move through the timeline. She has been accepted, and has paid her registration deposit. She has received her financial aid package, although she has also applied for a number of scholarships that won't be awarded until later on, so that's still ahead. We are praying that the dollar amount she will need to finance will go down further as she will be awarded some further grants and scholarships. Her transfer orientation day is coming up next week, and many more questions will be answered then - we hope favorably! We also await word that her exemption request is accepted and trust that she won't be subjected to any restrictions that would cause us to reconsider her attendance.
If all goes well, I expect that next month the "something ahead" will be her starting classes!
Oh, we're also watching for the arrival of barn swallow chicks! A pair is nesting above a window in the front of our house and they are expecting sometime soon:

I so enjoy writing & reading FOUR SOMETHINGS each month. Mine will be published later today.
I'm glad you found shoes that are comfortable and look better than you expected! I always enjoy these monthly reviews.
Such a cute picture of those eggs:) We watched over and enjoyed the hatching of a nest of catbirds earlier this summer. Love it! Hooray for comfortable shoes....oh but isn't it sad to say good-bye to cute shoes!?!
How in the world do you manage three blogs? I am not being funny, but serious. I love it! I am struggling to get on a good schedule with both of mine...not there yet...but hopefully someday :) I also read The Scarlet Pen in the last month and I enjoyed it. I have heard of the one by Connilyn, but none of the others. My daughter will be starting her second year of college at the end of August...there is so much to do and prepare, especially the first year. Hope all goes well for your daughter.
Thankful you have answers about your knee trouble.
