Five Minute Friday - From

One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.

from the mountains to the valleys . . .
where are you from?
who/where is it from?

********************
What question do you usually ask if someone says, "there's mail for you" or "there's a message for you"? If you're like me and everyone else in my household, it's probably "who is it from?" I usually ask that before I ask what it is. A lot of times I just need to know who left the message or sent the mail to guess whether it's good news or bad news, or even what the message is. Sometimes that's presumptuous, but I think it's mostly accurate.

Like cold water to a weary soul
is good news from a distant land.
~Proverbs 25:25~

Mail from my parents is good news. Mail from companies I don't already do business with is probably junk, and mail from companies I do use is probably an invoice. When there's a voicemail from my aunt, it's almost always because she just wanted to talk with someone and it's been too long since I called her. When I get a text from a certain number I know it's an alert about when the space station will be visible, and from another number I know it's only an ad from a restaurant. When I see a private message from one of my friends, I know it's likely a follow-up to our last conversation and I can make a good guess about how long it is or how urgent it is based on what I know about that particular friend.

The quality of products is often dependent on where they are from. Homemade bread from my kitchen is a lot better than mass produced bread from the grocery store. I expect high quality goods from a company with a long-standing stellar reputation, but I am sometimes skeptical of a similar product from a company I'm not familiar with. We try to buy things "Made in the USA" because we know where they come from.

I lift up my eyes to the mountains -
where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip -
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
The LORD watches over you -
the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
the sun will not harm you by day,
nor the moon by night.
The LORD will keep you from all harm -
he will watch over your life;
the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.

~Psalm 121~

My help comes from the Lord. I know his help and his care for me are perfect and reliable, because I know him. I know what to expect from him. Oh, not always specifically! I don't know how he will work out all things for my good, but I know the promise is FROM HIM so I can count on it. His direction isn't always comfortable or easy for me to obey or apply to my life, but it's the Word FROM HIM so it's good news.

so true that our help comes FROM HIM! No more surety in life needed eh?

Interesting perspective today, my friend.

You chose some great scriptures to illustrate "from." Anything from the hand of God will end up being good.

And... we always ask where mail or email or texts are from, too!

Such a different perspective which I love. I am so grateful to know where my help comes from as it is always on time and just the help that is needed!

We seem to have been on the same wavelength this week. We used the same Scripture.
