One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.
carry your weight
carry the team
carry the day
carry a tune
carry your cross
********************
We're expected to carry our weight in part of every group endeavor, and when we're good at something sometimes we're expected to carry the whole team on our shoulders. That's in addition to our own heavy burdens that we have to carry. I'm tired just thinking about it.
Yet Jesus also said that be worthy, we have to take up our cross and carry that too. And Paul tells us to carry each other's burdens.
Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ. If anyone thinks they are something when they are not, they deceive themselves. Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else, for each one should carry their own load. ~Galatians 6:2-5
What? That's a lot to carry. How can we possibly . . . ?
Maybe we're starting off by carrying things not meant for us. Paul does say each of us should carry our own load, so I don't have to carry the whole team. After all, that doesn't sound like teamwork, if one or two members are expected to do the work that's meant for others. Sometimes we need to reconsider. Many of our burdens aren't meant for us either. We have a tendency to continue lugging around our guilt and regrets and failures and bitterness and who knows what else even though we said we'd left them at the foot of the cross.
Turns out if we don't insist on carrying the stuff that was never meant for us, carrying our own loads isn't all that bad, and it frees us up to act in love and help carry burdens for others. A burden shared lightens the weight, and working together builds trust between us and our brothers and sisters too.
And we don't have to do it ourselves! Jesus invites us to work alongside him, and promises we'll find peace and rest. The burden seems light when we are working in his strength.
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."
~Matthew 11:28-30~

Don’t know why, but I do tend to try to overload myself with stuff I am not meant to carry. Thank you for this wise reminder that it just keeps us from being able to carry what we are meant to. Your #fmf neighbor, Cindy
Yup, we all try to carry too much, carry things which aren't ours to carry. It's these things we need to learn to hand over.
