One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.
on the road again
the long and winding road
road trip

I love a good road trip! When I was growing up, all our family vacations were road trips, and a majority of our vacations since I've been married have been road trips too. It's fun to have that possibility of adventure ahead of you, with the freedom to stop along the way or adjust the route if needed.
A road trip is a way for the whole family to spend time together and annoy each other in interesting and new places. ~Tom Lichtenheld
But what if it's not a trip I had planned? What if I'm NOT behind the wheel, or sure about the destination? What if I'm not sure what to take with me, or didn't have time to plan and pack? What if I don't know how long we'll be traveling or where we'll stop along the way?
In a way, that's what we're doing right now. The road trip of our life has taken a weirdly unexpected turn. We thought our route was nicely laid out for awhile, and we just found out it was actually a detour, and now we're not sure where it's leading. It's a bit disorienting, to say the least.
A bend in the road is not the end of the road . . . unless you fail to make the turn. ~Helen Keller
Sometimes the most scenic road in life are the detours you didn't mean to make. ~Angela N. Blount
You see, we are suddenly job hunting again. We thought we'd be on that particular highway for several years, and were kind of settling in for a comfortable cruise. And then - surprise! - we had to get off that road abruptly, and we now find ourselves on a very bumpy and uncomfortable road that wasn't shown on our map. Where will my husband find work now? How soon? Will we need to move?
Look on every exit being an entrance somewhere else. ~Tom Stoppard
I guess if we really believe that God is in control, then we can trust his voice as a very personal GPS. It's a test of our trust, and our obedience. Will we gripe and complain about the potholes and the poor signage and get impatient or infuriated with the other drivers? Or will we do our best to stay calm and drive safely, following the instructions of God's GPS because we know he can see the entire route and has the destination planned?
Show me the right path, O LORD;
point out the road for me to follow.
Lead me by your truth and teach me,
for you are the God who saves me.
All day long I put my hope in you.
~Psalm 25:4-5~

I suppose . . . since I'm not working on Fridays now, maybe I'll be able to write Five Minute Friday posts on Fridays again . . .
Every good road trip needs music:
I may not have ended up where I intended to go, but I think I have ended up where I intended to be. ~Douglas Adams

In the Bible someone said
you'll find your hands are one day bound
and that you'll be roughly led
to where you'd rather not be found.
If God loves me, this ain't nice,
but it's what the Good Book sayeth,
and I reckon it's the price
for being a man of faith,
but golly gee, aw shucks, and dang!
Why should this hard stuff be true?
Ain't it better that I hang
ten on a longboard out in Malibu,
and that God, smiling, sends to save
my soul a bright bikini'd babe?
"Or will we do our best to stay calm and drive safely, following the instructions of God's GPS because we know he can see the entire route and has the destination planned?" -- Sometimes it can feel scary even knowing that. Praying you stay calm and drive safe, and that the Lord will soon show you your destination and the wonderful new door he is opening for you.
Oh dear one, I love your trust in God during this turbulent time.
