S is for ... School Year Scripture

Awhile ago I posted "M is for Mission Statement" in which I talked about my practice of choosing a theme Scripture for each school year, and shared some of the Scriptures chosen for past years. Here's the one I finally chose for the 2013-2014 school year.

And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ - to the glory and praise of God.
~Philippians 1:9-11~

Of course we want our kids to have lots of knowledge and wisdom - a good education - but for what purpose? I believe that starting from the foundation of God's Word is the best way to get knowledge, because that is the kind of wisdom that helps us know God and have the discernment Paul talked about. Whatever else we learn this school year, I hope we develop the fruit of righteousness and bring glory to God in what we do.

Do you choose a Scripture for the school year, or write a homeschool or family mission statement? Leave a comment and let me know!
