Virtual Refrigerator: Cardboard Dream Home

Welcome to another edition of the Virtual Refrigerator! This weekly blog hop is co-hosted by A Glimpse of Our LifeAngels of HeartHomeschool Coffee Break, and Every Bed of Roses. We all cordially invite you to add your link sharing the art that's on your Virtual Refrigerator and then hop over to the other blogs and admire what's on their Fridges!

ARTistic Pursuits
Today I'm sharing an art project that I can't very well put on my real fridge with magnets! One of the great advantages of the Virtual Fridge is being able to display projects like this. :-) This will also serve as a preview of a new book from ARTistic Pursuits that we are reviewing. The book is called Sculpture Technique: Construct, and it is a course in sculpture. Kennady has been working on the unit teaching three-dimensional art using paper and cardboard. In this project, she was to create a model of a site - real or imaginary - similar to architect models that help visualize what a finished building project might look like.

She had already learned how to make several closed form shapes with corrugated cardboard.

She sketched her design on scrap paper and planned the closed form shapes and other pieces she would need. Then she started constructing.

Here is the finished project from a couple of different angles. She designed a log cabin style home, on a wooded plot of land with a pond. There is a low pier on the pond for fishing, and stone walkways from the pier to the doors of the house. She even included a woodpile to the side of the house!

I think this is my new dream home. :-)

Be sure to check back in a couple weeks when I post our full review of Sculpture Technique: Construct from ARTistic Pursuits!

We also have a new feature for the Virtual Refrigerator: a group Pinterest board. Come follow the board, and if you'd like to join us, just ask and one of the Fridge hosts can send you an invite. Continue to share your posts on the link-up each week, and on the Pinterest board!

You can grab the button above and add it to your post. Add your link here to share your child's art or your arts and crafts how-to posts. Please visit the other blogs and admire what's on their Virtual Refrigerators!

That is a cool dream home project. I can picture a real home like that from what you designed.

That is such a cool project, Kym. I think if my children were just a touch bigger, we'd really enjoy the Sculpture books :-)
