I've been bare minimum blogging for awhile now - it feels like I have so many plates spinning and something else always seems to be a higher priority. And to be honest, I'm not that great at time management either! But now that the school year is wrapped up, maybe I can establish some new routines for the summer and figure out how to keep writing something of interest here. Maybe this month's Something Loved, Something Gleaned, Something Braved/Saved and Something Achieved will help me do that.

Something Loved

We - my family and I - worked hard over the past several weeks preparing a concert we called Bonus Tracks. We make up one of the two worship teams that leads music for our church, and last year we came up with the idea of having a "bonus" evening of music for those who wanted more than the couple songs we were able to do during Sunday services at the time (thanks to covid restrictions still in place last spring). Now, a year later we did our second Bonus Tracks concert, and we combined it with a fundraiser dinner for the young adult ministry at church. It was so much fun practicing and performing, and we look forward to doing Bonus Tracks 3 sometime in the winter. It was a real treat to work together as a family on picking out music and playing together. Although my husband has been giving me a hard time, saying that none of the songs he suggested made the final set list! I guess I'll have to make sure to weight the next set list heavily in his favor!

Something Gleaned

Fellow blogger Barbara Lee Harper shared an important article earlier this month titled "Our Responsibility to Discern False Teaching" in which she proposed a lesson to be learned from the strange story of two prophets in the Old Testament book of I Kings 13. In a nutshell, one prophet was on his way home after having delivered a powerful message to King Jeroboam. He was met by another prophet who claimed to speak from God but whose admonitions were opposed to what God himself had instructed the first prophet to do. She suggested that one thing the story should remind us is the importance of testing every spirit and "word from the Lord" against the known word of the Lord revealed in Scripture. Every believer has the responsibility to learn God's Word and to use discernment in choosing what advice to follow, what voice to listen to, and what to believe. This is a very important principle in today's world with so many competing and confusing messages.
So while we don't need to get paranoid, we do need to be alert. And we remember that we don't come to the Bible just for affirmation or comfort or warm fuzzies. We come to it to find truth about and from God. We study God's Word for ourselves and with others, and as we grow in spiritual maturity, we won't be deceived and tossed about.

Something Saved

We've been meaning to get a new frame for this art print for months. I finally got the bright idea that if I had pictures in my phone showing the measurements, I could pick something up when I was in town. So I snapped some photos . . . and I don't know exactly what I was trying to show with these, so I gave up and put the print in a bag to take with me next time I'm in town and have a bit of time. *sigh* It was a good idea.

This meme should be my profile picture on social media:

And on a more serious and sentimental note:

Something Achieved

After what seems like a very long time, I've finally completed the Cabot Trail Conqueror Challenge! I've been participating in The Conqueror Challenges for awhile now, but this was a longer one, and with my limits, I knew it would take awhile. It's rewarding to log my daily steps or exercise into the app and see where I am in the virtual road I'm hiking. The Cabot Trail is in Nova Scotia, and being Canadian, this medal really appealed to me. Having finished that one, I got started on the Romantic Road through Germany, and I've figured out some conversions into 'miles' for the pre-hab exercises and preparation I'm doing prior to knee surgery in a few weeks. My goal was to finish the Romantic Road by my surgery date, but that might be a bit ambitious.

My favorite is your completing the Cabot Trail! Congratulations! I never heard of the Conqueror challenges, but WOW! I am so interested now after having visited the website. What a joy that you and your family were able to host the Bonus Track again and support the young adults too. Homeschooling is a wonderful yet stretching season. I hope your summer proves restful and refreshing and frees up some time for you to write. I've never heard of the Conquering Challenging, but after completing all the Fitbit levels, I'm definitely interested in this opportunity. Thanks for sharing! I pray your knee surgery goes well.

Love this quote! "Every believer has the responsibility to learn God's Word and to use discernment in choosing what advice to follow, what voice to listen to, and what to believe. This is a very important principle in today's world with so many competing and confusing messages." And wow! Congrat on your May Achievement! The Cabot Trail Conqueror Challenge sounds incredible!

I like that you do Bonus Tracks for your congregation. I would definitely show up to that if our church had it.
