It's been awhile since I've been able to participate in the Homeschool Weekly Photo Challenge, but this week it happened to work out well. The subject for our photos is: Science. Although we are pretty much finished school for the year, both kids still have some science to do before I let them take a complete break.
For the most part, we have tried to do as much hands-on science as is practical, but as the kids get older that does become a bit more of a challenge. Sometimes it's a challenge just based on the branch of science we are focusing on. This past year it was Biology for Landon and Zoology for Kennady. So I admit, it's been more of a read-the-textbook-answer-the-questions year for both of them. However, with the end of our school year upon us, there's time for some fun, and this is what science looked like at our house just yesterday. Landon found a fun activity on Supercharged Science that he wanted to try, so he recruited Kennady to work with him, and they set up "Squid Races" with balloons. Honestly, I don't even know what scientific concept this was related to - it seems like a physics thing to me, but I had the impression that Landon found it in the Life Science units. Since it was titled "Squid Races" I guess it probably demonstrates how squids propel themselves through the water?! I don't know - I'm guessing! But here are the pictures:

I took a couple of videos too. My apologies for them being sideways. If I could fix that, I would.
Supercharged Science is a great curriculum resource for hands-on science ideas! If you'd like to try it yourself, you can do so by clicking this link: Teach Science the Easy Way with Supercharged Science!
And if you want to read my previous reviews of Supercharged Science, you'll find them here: Supercharged Science Review 2014 and Supercharged Science Review 2013.
Do you do hands-on science? Did you have a favorite experiment or science activity this year? Leave a comment and let me know! You can see other weekly photos shared at The Canadian Homeschooler Weekly Photo Challenge - Science and share your own pictures.
