Homeschool Mother's Journal: No Spring Break Edition

In our homeschool... during this week we were in search of the elusive "typical" or "ordinary" homeschool day. Does such a thing even exist? We're going to be doing our best to document what's "ordinary" for us over the next couple weeks too, because I'm planning on putting together a series of "5 Ordinary Homeschool Days" for the Schoolhouse Review Crew Blog Hop which will run April 4-11.  I've seen some of the ideas other Crew members are working on for the Blog Hop, and there will be lots of topics to choose from! Anyway, although there are always interruptions and unusual situations, this week was a little more productive and normal than some we've had lately! We still had trouble getting up in the mornings, but at least we were fairly efficient once we got everyone working.
HMJ - history
We reviewed some of the information that we'd already gone over about the civilizations of the Aztec and Maya in central America. Kennady found a couple of related art projects she wanted to work on, and I assigned a book about Bible translation pioneer Cameron Townsend to Landon. Both kids got quite a bit done in Math - and it is so great to be able to say that, especially about Kennady, since math has never been her strong subject! We worked a little on English, Science, Languages, and Economics. Kennady got some new music books to work through for her piano and guitar lessons, and she even tried playing her guitar with our worship team when we practiced on Thursday evening! She did great for her first try!

In other news... I got to take Kennady to her softball practices on the weekend, and that will probably be mostly my job until the season starts, or until outdoor practices start. Then DH and I will split the responsibility - I will try to do the Monday games and he will do the Wednesday games.

On Monday - St Patrick's Day - we enjoyed Lucky Charms, Irish oatmeal, and Irish Coffee muffins for breakfast!

Tuesday evening was supposedly "normal" meaning Landon had CAP, and Kennady and I both had choir practice. But, there was also a parents' meeting for Kennady's choir, which meant that I was only able to stay for about 30 minutes of my choir practice before scuttling out to get to the meeting. And I still didn't make it to the meeting quite on time. Bah. Too much going on. But the rest of the week has been uneventful, in a good way. :-)

check out the attitude! LOL
One of my favorite things this week... convincing Kennady to try playing her guitar along with the worship team, and she realized that she isn't far from being ready!

On my blog this week...
On the bookshelf...
  • The Scarlet Contessa - Jeanne Kalogridis
  • City of Jasmine - Deanna Raybourn
  • The Forgotten Ones - Laura Howard

A parting shot... As pretty as it can be, I am tired of snow. I am ready for spring!
