October's Art Challenge: Autumn Leaves
The hosts of the Virtual Refrigerator put our heads together and decided to give a themed challenge to each other and to our readers each month. For October, the theme is Autumn Leaves, and we'd like to you to link up and pin your artwork that features autumn leaves in some way. We'll be featuring themed submissions to the Fridge as we go along. Please continue to share any art posts on our Virtual Fridge as well - we love seeing all of them! - and we hope the theme provides a little additional challenge and inspiration!

This week I simply suggested that Kennady look through her ARTistic Pursuits books for an art project that she could do that featured autumn leaves. I told her it could be something she'd done previously, or something new. I gave her this instruction before I left to run errands.

When I got home about an hour later, I found this on the table.

Autumn Leaves

All her own idea! She didn't find anything in the books that she felt like doing, but she wanted to use chalk pastels, so she came up with her own project. She first tried just drawing an outline of a maple leaf but wasn't happy with it, so she traced the outline of her left hand, then placed her right hand so that the fingers lined up and traced the thumb. Then she outlined again with orange, and filled in the colors and sketched the leaf's veins. She told me she spent a long time getting the shading just right!

You can grab the button above and add it to your post. Add your link here to share your child's art or your arts and crafts how-to posts. Please visit the other blogs and admire what's on their Virtual Refrigerators!

You may also follow the Virtual Refrigerator's group Pinterest board. If you'd like to join us, just ask and one of the Fridge hosts can send you an invite. Continue to share your posts on the link-up each week, and on the Pinterest board!

Cool! That orange pops on the blue background. Great job Kennady coming up with just the right picture.
