First Day - November 2014

first day

I love the feeling of turning over a new calendar page, especially when the dates are mostly blank...

But the first day of November was not blank this year! I had written in the One Day conference awhile ago as a possibility. It's a day-long worship and teaching event for youth in our church district that's put on by the youth camp organizers. Well, Kennady signed up to attend a few weeks ago, and so I agreed to go as well, since we needed a couple of youth leaders to drive.

And drive we did. Starting at 6:30 in the morning, and mostly in the rain, we drove for about three hours. Kennady was riding shotgun in my vanful of teen girls, so I gave her the camera.

As you can see, she enjoyed taking pictures of the Bay Bridge.

At last we arrived at the conference, which was held in a historic theater in downtown Dover, Delaware.

I went along with a small group of teens for walk and coffee break in the afternoon.

We had a good time, and enjoyed some good preaching and encouragement from the speakers. The ride home took longer than it needed to, thanks to the modern marvel of GPS. Ahem.

I'm sharing some Second Day pictures too, because on Sunday afternoon we had a chili cookoff as a fundraiser for the youth at church. The students did a great job organizing and running the event, and we had a marvelous turnout with a total of 17 chilis entered!

With all that great competition, I didn't win one of the prize baskets, but I did get to sample some very good chilis. My own is still my favorite, so I guess next year I will have to buy more votes!

And then it was time to wash dishes. Boo.

I was tempted to share our 2nd day too, since our first day ended up with an out of town sleep over and was more eventful! So wonderful that you had such a great turn out and great trip!
