Homeschool Weekly: Quiet Week Edition

In our homeschool... It was a rather quiet week, since I only had one student! Landon is at a Civil Air Patrol encampment all week. Kennady worked mostly on finishing up her Cultural Geography work by doing some reading, map work, and some art related to Russia... and what else - Scandinavia I think? She managed to get onto Unlock Math a couple times before our internet slowed down - that's for an upcoming review.

My review of the Homeschool Planet online planner from Homeschool Buyers Co-op will be coming next week, and later on this summer, I'll be sharing reviews of With Lee in Virginia, a book from Classical Conversations, and a new literature curriculum from Writing with Sharon Watson.

In other news... Well, of course the week in question began on July 4th. Before we could get to the cookout and fireworks portion of the day, however, I had to job of delivering Landon and his friend to the Tri-Wing Encampment (Civil Air Patrol). I was expecting the drive to take two hours, but it was actually a bit quicker than that. Shortly after we arrived at the school where they were planning to check in the cadets and start shuttling them to their accommodations, it started raining. Hard. So instead they had all of us drive in small convoys over to the Aberdeen Proving Grounds, where there was a large sheltered area where they could do the check-in. Of course, that system hampered my ability to take any decent pictures.





Saturday evening we headed to Frederick for the fireworks, that being the non-quiet part of our week.

During this week we also had some work completed on the house - new windows in the garage; and new carpet in the family room (More about that in a moment).

34 Weeks of Clean...
I've been participating in a weekly challenge and link-up at Family, Faith, and Fridays and our assignment was our clothes storage area. The previous week was the storage room/attic and I said I didn't do any work on that, but then I realized that wasn't true!  The garage (as you can see in the picture above) and the unfinished part of our basement is where we have storage, and we had to organize what we already had there in storage and compact it a bit so that we could temporarily store all the stuff from the family room until the carpet was done. So our storage area looks like this right now, except you have to imagine the upright grand piano jammed in front of the wall unit in the second picture, because that's where it will be till probably tomorrow.




Here is the family room - almost empty! Once the TV was moved, the house was really quiet! LOL




The workers came and started on Tuesday, got the underlay down, and then found that the carpet measured short, so it was like this for a couple extra days.






This morning they came back with the correct carpet and finished the job. I'll have pictures of that next week!

 For Week 28, the assignment is the Schoolroom. Obviously, geared for us homeschoolers! I totally admit, my first thought was "I don't have a schoolroom! Week off! Woot!" but I very quickly came crashing down to reality when my happy dance tripped over the jumble of school supplies just around my desk. Okay. No school ROOM for me to organize, but definitely some school STUFF needs looked after. For the details of the assignment, go to Family, Faith, and Fridays. For today, the prompt is Fridge so I guess we're supposed to talk about our fridges and what's in them. Or maybe what's on them.

Here's my fridge and inside my fridge door - pretty clean! Milk, cream, juices, lemonade, eggs, some leftovers, and meat thawing for weekend meals.

   

Part of me would like to have NO magnets on the fridge at all, but this is the closest I can get to that goal right now. Not bad.
