It's very late in the day, but I wanted to share a little bit about Home for today's July Blogging Challenge hosted by Lynn at This Day Has Great Potential and Jennifer at A Glimpse of Our Life. Today's prompt is "Where do you call home and what do you love about where you live?"
We've made rural Maryland our home for many years, most of them in this house.
When we were first preparing for our big cross-continent move, I dreamed that maybe someday we'd live in the country, in a two-story house (for some reason I thought it would be so cool to have bedrooms on the second story of the house) with a wrap-around porch, and a big yard that had big trees and a laundry line. Yes, a laundry line was part of a my dream house. Too funny. In my perfect fantasy, I would have had a log house with all those features. As it turned out, I eventually got something pretty close to my ideal. My porch doesn't wrap around the house, but it's pretty great. We have about an acre of land, and are out in the country surrounded by farms.
It's a really different setting from where I grew up - in Calgary, Alberta, where a drive out of the city afforded views more like this one.
In some ways, Calgary - southern Alberta - and Canada, will always be "home" to me, but at the same time, I'm think of west central Maryland and the United States as home now. This is where we've put down our roots, and for now this is where we belong.
I love how God blessed me with many of the desires of my heart, not just in the house that I call home, but in so many other areas, especially since it was so hard for me to move so far away from the home of my youth.
Delight yourself in the LORD;
And He will give you the desires of your heart.
~Psalm 37:4~
