In our homeschool... I'm not gonna lie, we didn't get much done. We were home for a short bit on Monday and I encouraged the kids to see if there was some reading or something they could get done, but realistically I didn't expect much. I still don't know what they did that day, except that Kennady practiced piano and guitar and even had a guitar lesson as usual!

We returned home late Thursday, so we made an attempt to have a somewhat normal school day on Friday. With limited success. Both Landon and Kennady worked on the novels they had been reading for Literature, and a few other odds and ends.

We are nearing the end of the Crew Review year, and I have only a couple of reviews still in the works - The Ultimate Homeschool Planner and Koru Naturals

In other news... As I shared in my last Homeschool Weekly, we have been dealing with the somewhat unexpected passing of my mother-in-law last Friday. I made a brief trip back home to look after some things here and then take all the kids back to Ontario for the memorial service. We had a good drive up on Monday evening, although we left quite a bit later than we'd hoped. However, we had no delays and a smooth trip, so we made good time. Tuesday was spent making final funeral arrangements and the like; and the memorial service was on Wednesday. It was a lovely service and tribute to my husband's mom and my kids' Grandmum.

All was not mourning and moping though - we actually made sure to watch (or listen) the MLB division series, especially as the Toronto Blue Jays played this year. Grandmum was a devoted Jays fan, and we felt pretty sure she would have wanted us to keep following her - and our - favorite team on their run! We even watched Game 5 of the series with friends on Wednesday evening and there was great rejoicing when the Blue Jays came through with the win!

I'm a little disappointed that the Jays couldn't pull it out for Game 1 against the Royals last night, but it's only the first game of a whole series. Anything can happen!

Also last night - Kennady went to her first Bingo, a fundraiser, and had a good time. And Landon was directing parking at a haunted hayride put on by one of the nearby fire halls as an October fundraiser. He does that again tonight and next weekend. It's not my favorite thing, because of course he needs a ride there and back, so hopefully he'll spot me some gas money out of his earnings. This morning, he and DH were at a men's breakfast and skeet shoot, so I enjoyed a quiet house to myself for a bit.

On the bookshelf...

Murther and Walking Spirits by Robertson Davies
Fire and Ice (Wild at Heart) by Mary Connealy
Ruby (Dakotah Treasures #1) by Lauraine Snelling - just finished this last night, so the review will be coming soon!

I finished Unequal Affections: A Pride and Prejudice Retelling by Lara S. Ormiston, and reviewed it on my book blog, Just A Second. You can find other reviews and book-related things there as well.

A parting shot... Given the negligible amount of school completed this week, I think I'll count this as music or creative writing or something. Kennady got out a poem she wrote a couple years ago, added a refrain, and put it to music.
