Graduation Thoughts

Seriously, do I write about Graduation every time I hit the letter G in any Blog through the Alphabet challenge? I feel like I do, so I checked and I have done so at least twice. But it's on my mind a lot these days, so I'm just going with it again.

My third kid will be graduating in less than six months. We are nearing the end of first semester, which should mean that he is around halfway through this year's courses. I think he's running a little behind, so I'm feeling a tad anxious about it, but I keep reminding myself that he will pull it off. He always does, and he's a bit like me in his habit of working harder and faster as a deadline approaches! It's not the wisest way to go about it, but whatever.

I happen also to be on the grad ceremony committee for our homeschool group. That means that I am not only thinking about graduation requirements and timelines and to-do lists for my own kid, but I have the group ceremony on my mind as well. We'll have to make a final decision about the commencement speaker soon, and before we know it, the next planning meeting will be upon us. At that one, we'll be making the rest of the decisions about the ceremony - such as music and some of the details. Soon we'll need to write a short bio for the program, have senior pictures taken, choose music and photos for a powerpoint presentation during the ceremony, and who knows what else that I can't think of at this moment. A lot of thought and prayer goes into making that commencement ceremony as meaningful and memorable as possible.

Graduation is also on my mind because our last installment of the Homeschooling High School Blog Hop will be at the end of this month - just a couple of weeks away! I've been thinking about what I want to share about graduation requirements and how to prepare.

Mostly I've been trying to wrap my brain around the fact that very soon all three of my boys will be finished their homeschooling. Landon may well go on to college, and he may even live at home while attending a community college, but my work as his education facilitator is almost at an end. I hope I've done a good job. I hope I've done my part in preparing him well for his future. And I'm excited to see where the road takes him.

Graduation is on my mind, as well, thanks to the Homeschool High School blog hop. My child number 3 still has 2 1/2 years to go, but it's frighteningly close, just the same!

We aren't part of a homeschool group that is planning a graduation ceremony. I think my oldest wants a reception/open house to celebrate, but so far she's refusing to wear a cap and gown.
