In our homeschool . . . we had our ups and downs. Yes, we got a lot of work done, but on a couple of days kids slept in and got a very late start or we got busy doing other things rather than school. Those times were rather discouraging, because by this time we should be about three-quarters of the way through all the schoolwork, and I know we are not. At least not in everything. *sigh*

Coming soon . . . a new round of Crew reviews! Kennady has begun working on one of the new Math Mini-Courses from A+ Tutorsoft. We just received our Heroes of History book about Orville Wright from YWAM Publishers, so we'll start reading that on Monday. We've started getting together our supplies so we'll be ready as soon as the ARTistic Pursuits book Sculpture Technique Model arrives. And we just got word that we'll also be able to try out Kwik Stix from The Pencil Grip, Inc. and the new Poetry Memorization resources from IEW. Wow!! And here I thought we might not be doing a lot of reviews this year, since my kids are getting older! (Hint: Keep an eye on the 2016 Reviews list in my sidebar. It has links to the reviews I've already posted, and links to the products with reviews coming soon!)

In other news . . . The weekend was fairly relaxed - Kennady helped decorate the church for Easter on Saturday morning, and the kids went bowling with the youth group that evening, while the hubster and I went out for dinner. Yeah, a date night! Pretty cool.

On Wednesday, instead of our usual midweek activities at church, we all helped with the outreach event for families. This year our Easter Eggstravaganza included an egg hunt, games, prizes, music, and food for all the families that attended, and we had a new activity as well - Peeps on Parade. Our own local version of the 'art shows' featuring dioramas and sculptures made of Peeps marshmallow candies. The kids and I came up with an idea and we submitted a hockey game themed display, which didn't win, but we had a lot of fun doing it and plan to go bigger and better next year! (Peeps on Parade was the fund-raiser at the event - the teens sold tickets with which purchasers could vote for their favorites, and all the proceeds are used to help pay for kids and teens to go to camps.)

We had worship team practice on Thursday evening instead of Wednesday this week, because we combine the two worship teams for the Easter service. The practice runs long, because we have so much music to prepare and with a slightly different combination of musicians than usual, but as always was a very enjoyable time. Kennady will be doing a live art presentation during the service and she has been hard at work on her design. We're looking forward to Sunday morning!

Today, the kids will be delivering "Easter baskets" to families in need locally. Our teens have been doing this outreach for several years - we fill laundry baskets with cleaning supplies (and some Easter candy, of course!) and distribute them in some local neighborhoods. A couple of young ladies started the project in our church several years ago when they found out that cleaning and household supplies are not covered by food stamps and most other types of assistance to low-income households.  (A couple of pictures from delivery day last year)

What's important. . . is that we're involved in ministry and in growing our faith, and in building character. And yeah, that's more important in the long run than whether we finished all the math quizzes by the due date I'd set.

Sure, it's important to get an education and to learn how to work efficiently and meet deadlines, but I've learned from long experience with homeschooling that we do manage it somehow, even the delays and not-so-good weeks along the way. All the same, since I'm evaluating at the third quarter, I will be pushing Landon to put in the extra time in the subjects where he's not as far along as he should be.

I recommend . . . joining me and many other members of the Schoolhouse Review Crew next week for our blog hop - 5 Days of Tips for Homeschool Parents (the link will be live on Monday, March 28) I'll be offering a word of advice over a virtual cup of coffee each day.

I love your peeps hockey display. How fun!

I didn't realize that cleaning supplies were not able to be purchased with food stamps. How wonderful that you all deliver these Easter baskets to those who can use them.
