In our homeschool . . . With Independence Day on Monday, and Kennady working this week, it was a challenge to get much done, but we did a couple of assignments from The Power in Your Hands, which we'll be reviewing in a couple of weeks. Her geography homework was easy to take along and work on, so she did some of that as well.
We're also working on CTC Math for an upcoming review, and enjoying Beric the Briton from Heirloom Audio Productions, so we can review that later in the summer as well.
In other news . . . Our weekend was rather quiet, as the boys didn't get back from Creation until Sunday afternoon, and then they just needed to sleep! We celebrated Kennady's birthday rather quietly - she had a friend over on Friday night, and then we had her requested birthday foods on Sunday. This year her gifts were mostly in the form of money, so there were no pretty presents to open. And instead of a cake, she requested donuts and whoopie pies.
Monday, of course, was Independence Day, but Spencer worked during the day and by late afternoon it was raining and quite miserable, so we did not go out for fireworks. Turns out the city fireworks that we usually go to were postponed, so we didn't even miss anything! We had smoked a brisket on Sunday evening, so that was our delicious 4th of July dinner. We enjoyed a quiet day at home and watched some fireworks on TV in the evening.
On Tuesday, I had to take the car for service, and Landon and Kennady both had the day off, so we also did some shopping. Most importantly, we got Kennady her birthday gift, which was a new ukulele.
The rest of the week has been just the same old same old, except that Kennady has been watching the boys at their house instead of ours. That hasn't worked out very conveniently, so we'll be glad to have them back at our house next week.
Oh! And last night the mighty hunters (aka the kittens) caught a mouse! I figured we probably had a few mice around; now there's one less.

Great job getting school done in any week with a holiday and a birthday. Cute whoopie pie cake!
I had a birthday last week too! I requested cheesecake instead of a "real" cake. Yum!
