Homeschool news  . . . even though this week - like almost every week! - was full of interruptions and distractions and delays, I still feel like we got quite a bit done in school. Which is a huge relief! Last week I mentioned that we'd decided to change Kennady's schedule a little bit, by putting off the start of Grammar/Composition until she's finished Health, and by limiting Science to one or two days a week for now. (I explained in my High School Lesson Book post on Monday what we had planned.) That actually worked quite well this first week, and Kennady got further in History than I'd expected, and she got Math and Health looked after as well. We're a little behind the pace I'd hoped for at the beginning of the month, but certainly within striking distance. So far, the tweak is working, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for October to be a good month!

Other news . . . last weekend was a contrast of celebrations. On Saturday we attended a funeral service and looked back on a life well-lived; then on Sunday Kennady and I went to a bridal shower and looked forward to an upcoming wedding day and a new chapter of life for a friend.

It was a busy week of school and work, and some creative use of our vehicles when Spencer's car suddenly developed a problem on Tuesday evening. We suspected the transmission, and had to have it towed so it could be looked at. It turned out to be a different problem, thankfully with a smaller (though still painful) price tag, and hopefully a shorter repair time. I'm actually awaiting a phone call this afternoon that we can go pick it up.

What's New . . . Kennady bought herself another ukulele on Saturday morning. A baritone this time.

She now has a slightly different hair color too.  At the time I'm writing this, her hair isn't dry so we're not sure how successful the latest adventure in hair color is, but the hope is that it will be rather pink. I suspect it might wind up more like strawberry blond, which isn't as dramatic as she was hoping. While I was coloring her hair, I figured I would test that color (a pastel pink) on a section of my hair just to see what would happen. It says it's not recommended for predominantly gray hair, but I was curious. It looks fine to me, and I see no reason why I shouldn't take my chances with the blue or lavender color I've been eyeing. At worst, I suppose I might have to get a super short cut again, or wear a hat or scarf for a few weeks! Stay tuned, and I will let you know!

I recommend . . . the new Fire HD 8 from Amazon.com. I am loving mine!!

A parting shot . . . there's a distinct lack of photos in my update this week! I didn't even get a picture of Kennady's new ukulele yet. I happened to have my camera within reach one day when the kittens desperately wanted me to give them some food before I made my coffee. Sorry, kitties, I looked after myself first.

We had a funeral to attend today. It was so bittersweet learning more about the life of a man who had lived to the ripe old age of 97! Lots of happy memories were shared with the sense of loss the family felt.
