Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

Homeschool news  . . . It's been very quiet on the homeschool front. We are officially on our Christmas break, so most things have been put aside this week. Kennady did a little reading for History and for Health, but that's about it. Next week will be a break as well, so hopefully she'll be ready to jump back in right after New Years!

Other news . . . My parents are here to spend the holidays with us, so we've been taking a break from homeschool and from the blog, and have been doing things a little bit differently in order to spend time together. The hubster and the boys are still working, and there are still many errands and appointments that we need to keep, but wherever possible, we've chosen to relax and just be together. The house is finally decorated, and Gramma has been doing Christmas baking; and we've all put in time playing games, doing puzzles, and just sitting about drinking coffee and visiting.

Last weekend was a busy one, and the cold yucky weather resulted in a few changes to plans. The snow and freezing rain we received all of Friday meant there was a lot of ice and partially frozen slush everywhere on Saturday morning. Spencer could get to work okay, but Kennady's choir had to cancel their dress rehearsal. It warmed up during the day and by late afternoon was fairly comfortable, and the roads were fine, which was a relief since the hubster and I had tickets to the Capitals game in DC.

On Sunday afternoon, they chorus presented their Winter Celebration concert without benefit of having practiced in the building the day before. It was beautiful anyway.

The big news from this week isn't exactly good. Spencer and Kennady were in a car accident on Tuesday - Spencer was rear-ended and pushed into a car in front of him. We are awaiting a decision from insurance on what will happen with his car; and we are doing our best to get all of us to our various jobs with only two vehicles! Thankfully, neither of the kids was seriously hurt. (The other drivers were not hurt either) They are sore, and they did visit the doctor to get checked out, and hopefully that will be all there is to that. Y'know what's really annoying? Spencer had just picked up his car from the shop where he had new tires put on. Like just that day; maybe two hours earlier at the very most. *sigh*

What's Important . . . Spencer and Kennady weren't hurt!

I recommend . . . SchoolhouseTeachers.com! True, I recommend this resource website a lot, but I'm especially excited about it right now for two reasons. First, the new website design and all the wonderful new goodies added for members! You will find even more curriculum for homeschoolers at all grade levels, and tons of helpful planning and record-keeping resources for parents. And second, now is a great time to get started with SchoolhouseTeachers.com because they have a Christmas special! From now until January 15, 2017, new members can enjoy holiday pricing with the following codes:

$9.95/month . . . use code CHRISTMAS
$90/year . . . use code CHRISTMASYEAR

On my blogs last week . . .

Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week  I've been reading:

The Innkeeper of Ivy Hill by Julie Klassen
From Heaven: A 28-Day Advent Devotional by A.W. Tozer

A parting shot . . . I found this picture from two years ago on my phone and thought it was cute!

I'm so glad the kids are ok even if the car is not! Have a wonderful break and enjoy family time with the grandparents.

Merry Christmas to you and your family Kym. So glad the kids were okay. I'm just teaching my youngest to drive and am reminded again how quickly things can go wrong on the roads. I enjoyed your article on life skills. It's so easy to get too focused on academics and forget some of the all-important life skills.
