Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.
Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!
Homeschool news . . . I hadn't really intended to take a break this week, but that's the way it worked out. Kennady did work on History and finished her final exam for French I, but we wound up out of the house for one reason or another almost every day this week. Since all she has left to finish up now is History and Algebra (and a couple of review things we are working on), so we do need to hit the books but it's not a panic. Not quite.
Other news . . . So last week shortly into the big job of mowing the yard, the belt for the mower deck broke. And we had little choice but to let the grass grow ever higher until we had time to replace the belt and then mow. It took two separate trips into town on Saturday before I had the right size belt, and because it was already late in the day by the time I went back the second time, Kennady and I had permission to take our time and do some other shopping as well. Worked out very well for me, because not only did we both find new dresses, but she decided to buy me some flowers for Mother's Day.
Sunday - Mother's Day - was a nice, quiet day, and my boys bought pizza and wings for our lunch so I didn't have to cook or clean up. Or even stand in a long line for a table at a restaurant. So it was good.
We got to enjoy a spectacular sunset on Monday evening (I think it was Monday - the days have all run together for me at this point!) and then the rains came.
And between the hubster and Spencer, they got the lawn mowed and the tractor went into the garage just as the raindrops started falling on Tuesday. And it feels like it's been raining ever since. There have been some short breaks, but not many.
Wednesday was the last night of the kids program at church, and I'm not sad about it at all. I was pressed into service and it's not my favorite thing, so I admit I'm relieved to be relieved of the duty!
Yesterday evening was the Homeschool Moms Night Out so I got to enjoy coffee and conversation with some other moms while Landon was doing something official-like at Civil Air Patrol.
And today Kennady is spending the day with a friend before going to the homeschool group's Junior Senior Banquet tonight. Landon left with friends early this morning for a weekend road trip to a rock festival so hopefully they will have a great time and not do stupid things. They are staying with my Harrison, so there is one responsible married man in the group!
I recommend . . . checking out the spring savings at SchoolhouseTeachers, com this month. During May, $9.95/month or $99/year will get you an Ultimate Membership and access to hundreds of complete homeschool courses, hundreds of videos and eBooks, and the full World Book library. In addition you'll also get the summer print edition and the tote bag. For more details, see my post Expand Your Homeschool World with SchoolhouseTeachers.com
On my blogs last week . . .

And on my book blog, Just A Second:
What I'm Reading - May 14, 2018
Recent Reads - A Treacherous Curse
Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I finished and reviewed A Treacherous Curse (A Veronica Speedwell Mystery) by Deanna Reybourn. I also finished As Death Draws Near (A Lady Darby Mystery) by Anna Lee Huber, with a review coming later today or sometime tomorrow. And I've been reading:
No Less Days by Amanda G. Stevens
A parting shot . . . Kennady's picture of Nonnie, Auntie Anne, Veronica (who has more selfie attitude at under two years old than I will ever have!), and Violet the Dog.

Those are beautiful flowers! My hubby and boys all cooked for me too so I didn't have to lift a finger.
that first lawn mowing is always a bear isn't it? Glad you got the belt you needed, and oh.... that sunset! :)
Beautiful sunrise!
