I wasn't sure whether I'd do a whole post of pictures from this concert, but since I did one for Pentatonix, and attending musical events regularly has been a goal for us this school year, I thought I might as well!

It's pretty amazing to me that I like such a large percentage of the music that my kids like. Not just tolerate, but actually like. Because I don't think my parents had much use for what I was listening to when I was a teen. They certainly never attended concerts with me or my siblings! We started taking our kids to Christian music festivals when they were just tykes, and that tradition has continued. Anyway, it's absolutely no hardship for me to go with Kennady to these shows - other than the hit to the pocketbook, of course!

Back in the summer, when tour dates for Twenty One Pilots were first announced, she was determined that we would make it a priority to go. So I dutifully became a "verified fan" of the band so that I could get the ticket purchase invite the day tickets went on sale. (This is how they attempt to limit speculating and scalping in the digital age. When I was a teen, you either had to camp outside the ticket office or hope that there would be tickets left when you'd hit redial on your phone a bajillion times before actually connecting to the ticket office. Not sure if it's progress or not, but I digress.) I mean, I was a fan already, but now I'm actually verified. They should have given me a card to carry to prove it. They didn't, but I did get that special invitation to buy tickets when they went on sale, which was a very good thing, because they went on sale the week Kennady was at camp so she couldn't have bought her own anyway! I went ahead and bought four tickets (the maximum allowed per person), best available (which was on the floor!), and waited anxiously until Kennady came home from camp so I could tell her.

She did not believe me that they were real tickets. 😆

But they were, and so she found two friends to go with us, and on October 31st, we added some yellow bandanas and duct tape to our clothes in order to be properly outfitted with the Trench look, and headed to Washington, DC.

Kennady created the look a week ahead of time for Trunk or Treat.

And here we are, at the concert venue. This was right after one of the opening acts.

Here we go - here's the real reason we came - Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun. I did my best to grab some photos during the concert, so that Kennady could sing along and jump and whatever else. Of course she got some pictures too. We had pretty prime real estate, all things considered, although Josh was mostly on the other side of the stage, so it was a little difficult to get decent pictures.

Tyler stated that Halloween was one of the few
times during the year where they felt like they "fit in"!

They moved to a second stage near the back of the floor for a few songs, and we stayed put instead of surging with the crowd. In fact, I think we were able to move a little closer to the main stage at this point.

We were actually very close to the catwalk bridge that was lowered for them to walk between the two stages.

This is one of my favorite shots of the night. And yes, we really were about that close. I didn't use much zoom at all for this photo.

Twenty One Pilots always ends with the song Trees. The light show is pretty impressive, although hard to capture with a cellphone camera.

And of course, the confetti. An abundance of it!

A lot of people - including Kennady - collected handfuls of confetti after the show. I saw quite a few people lie down on the floor and get their picture taken with the confetti around them. Eew. Glad Kennady didn't want to do that. Confetti as a souvenir is one thing . . .  and she did turn some of it into neat keepsakes.

And so ends another exciting Year of Music adventure in Kennady's senior year!

I really did consider it quite an honor to be able to hang out with Kennady and her friends for the evening.

I suspect our next couple of musical events will be of a more subdued variety. Kennady and I both have choral concerts coming up, and hopefully we can find some Christmas music things to attend together.
