Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.
Homeschool news . . . Yesterday we had our last co-op class for a couple of weeks, and are now on Christmas break! The assignment load for co-op wasn't too heavy, but Kennady did have some serious work to do for Creative Writing and for Speech and Presentation. She suffered a bit of writer's block with both projects and had to scramble a bit to finish both to her satisfaction.
French was a good deal of review this week, and she did have a chance to get together with her classmates to practice a bit on Wednesday afternoon. The three girls had decided to make Buche de Noel for class as they had last year. Kennady and one of the other girls baked the cakes at home - and Kennady had to do it completely by herself while I was at work! - and they met at the third girl's home to assemble and decorate the cakes, and of course, to practice their French at the same time! They brought the cakes to class on Thursday morning to share with their instructor and with the French I class.

In our Creative Writing class, I reworked the lesson plan a bit because I didn't want to be in the middle of chapter when we took our holiday break. So I had the students share the stories they had written this week, and we discussed some elements of fiction seen in familiar Christmas specials before settling in to spend the last hour of our class watching one of those specials! I invited the other high school students who did not have class during that time to join us for a Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer viewing party! (I'm planning on sharing my lesson plan ideas for elements of fiction based on Christmas movies)
Other news . . . On Sunday afternoon Kennady wrapped up her chorus season with the Winter Celebration concert. One of her friends came along with us and joined us for our traditional post-concert treat at Olive Garden; and another friend met us at the concert so she and Kennady could quickly catch up. And take their customary concert picture.

What I Loved This Week . . . Despite the hectic schedule and sense of not being quite ready for Christmas, I've greatly enjoyed some aspects of the holiday season. I often complain about the holiday parties, but I do enjoy them - I just don't enjoy cramming so much into so short a time! I love seeing Christmas decorations and hearing Christmas music. I love watching favorite Christmas movies with family.

A parting shot . . . yes, my mittens come from one of my favorite coffee shops!
