Homeschool Highlights - The Week With Some Changes

This post contains affiliate links - using affiliate links from Homeschool Coffee Break helps fuel this blog and our homeschool - thank you!

Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

Homeschool news  . . . we wrapped up the first semester and got that report card filled out! I can't remember exactly where we were at with the decision about whether Kennady would take the second semester Business class when I updated last week, but yes, she's taking that. That was one small change we made to our course lineup. There might be a little change to the curriculum lineup for Consumer Math, because the Business course may include some accounting and business math. Also there's a small group at church that is doing a Dave Ramsey finance class, and Kennady was invited to do that. I hope she does, because it's excellent material, and will also help in the Consumer Math course she has to do anyway. In other words, if she does the Dave Ramsey class, we'll be able to cut anything in the Consumer Math that is already covered, making it easier on her in terms of study and homework.

Another change is that I'm expecting her to continue and complete the Guitar 360 course we dabbled in for a review rather than take private lessons. We just do not have room in our schedule to add in the private lessons at this point!

Other news . . . the hubster and I decided to just jump in and get started on a redecorating project we'd been talking about for a long time. It was past time the wallpaper in our kitchen and dining room came down. We'd inherited this checked wallpaper when we moved into the house seventeen years ago! It wasn't necessarily what we would have chosen, but it did work with our color scheme, so we went with it. But we were getting more and more tired of it and finally made a decision on a paint color. We started taking off the wallpaper on Saturday, and will be getting it all off and the walls and ceiling painted in stages. It will be the same green you can see through the doorway on the right in the second picture.

As we took stuff off the walls, the checked pattern bothered us
even more!

Thankfully the ice that was predicted for Saturday night and Sunday morning wasn't nearly as bad as forecast, so we did have church on Sunday. And although it was terribly cold, we did step outside from time to time on Sunday night to view the lunar eclipse. And I got some really low quality pictures.

This week has been the usual busy, although I didn't work on Monday. When I arrived to pick Kennady up from work on Tuesday, she was finishing tuning the guitars, so I annoyed her a little by taking pictures.

What's Coming Up . . . I've got the news on the first couple of reviews we'll be doing with the Homeschool Review Crew this year! Just arrived in the mail - the newest Heirloom Audio Adventure, called For The Temple; and I just got news that we'll be reviewing Victus Study Skills System.

I recommend . . .  checking out the FlyBy Review and Giveaway post on my Just A Second blog, to find out more about a great resource I just reviewed: 30 Days to Understanding The Bible by Max Anders. The giveaway closes on Saturday, so hurry over and enter!

On my blogs last week . . .

And on my book blog, Just A Second:

Wordless Wednesday - Snow
What I'm Reading - January 21, 2019
Scripture and a Snapshot - Wait in Hope

Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I've been reading:

The Alamo Bride (Daughters of the Mayflower) by Kathleen Y'Barbo
Kind Is the New Classy: The Power of Living Graciously by Candace Cameron Bure
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte
Dark Road to Darjeeling (A Lady Julia Grey Mystery Book 4) by Deanna Raybourn

A parting shot . . .  This happened - isn't it gorgeous! This is the hair color she wanted for her senior portraits, so now I need to get that appointment scheduled.

We missed the eclipse because it was overcast here :-(

As I read through your post, I was like, wait I already heard some of this and realized I've been getting it in clips on Instagram. :) We enjoyed the eclipse much as we did the sun last year. Not going outside, but noticing the brightness of the moon and then the dim. Only my oldest was awake to notice. And yes, the hair! Love it. I need to get back in the habit of writing a what's up post...

Oh, man I removed several layers of wall paper in my bedroom when I was a college student. The people who lived in the house prior to my mom were obsessed with wallpaper and had many layers of it in every room.
