Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

Homeschool news  . . . Short version - we got the homeschool stuff done that we needed to! It was a fairly easy week as far as co-op homework, so Kennady didn't have too much trouble getting all of that done. I would have liked for her to get started with the Consumer Math course she's doing for second semester, but never found an opportunity to sit down with her and go over the instructions. She did, however, start the small group focusing on Personal Finance at church.

Other news . . . Some quick updates - we finished stripping all the wallpaper and washing walls in our kitchen and dining room on Saturday. So that project is coming along, although we spent the entire week with the fridge right smack in the middle of the kitchen! We're planning to start on the painting this Saturday, and get at least enough done so the fridge can go back where it belongs.

Sunday was the start of a new sermon series at church that focuses on family. Pastor concluded with a challenge for us - to eat meals as a family as many days as possible during the week. Up until a couple of years ago, our family would have easily been able to do this five nights of the week. With our busy schedules it's not that easy any more! But we were together for lunch on Sunday, along with a couple of the Auxiliary Kids (our kids' friends that have standing invitations to our place, and that we treat like family members) so I decided to post our acceptance of the challenge on Facebook. I did the same on Wednesday evening when we also had the whole family plus AKs here.

We usually watch the SuperBowl at a friend's place with her family, but she had a pipe break a few days before. So we watched at home instead, and the kids had some of their friends over. They watched precious little of the game, since they were playing cards, and none of them cared very much about either team playing. The hubster and I didn't really care much either, but watched anyway. And in the end felt like the game, the commercials, and the half-time show were all rather forgettable.

These kids are always playing Dutch Blitz. I think this was actually on Wednesday, but you get the idea!

The rest of the week had only one interesting and out-of-the ordinary event - Kennady's senior portrait session. I took my own low-quality photos as a preview. Our youth pastor is also our photographer, by the way. She sent us the digital set of her photos and Wow!!! She really captured Kennady's personality and beauty. I can hardly wait to get those printed and start sharing them, but how are we going to pick which one to use for a grad announcement?

What I Loved This Week . . . being able to take photos while Kennady was posing for someone else. And then seeing the amazing portraits the photographer shared with us!

Another one of mine

I took these two from the side, and the professional version of one of these two will most likely be the official grad announcement picture.

I recommend . . . visiting the Homeschool Review Crew blog to check out the first curriculum reviews of 2019. Our newest Crew members are bringing you their reviews of SchoolhouseTeachers.com. And quite a few veteran Crew members (like yours truly) are linking up reviews of this amazing homeschool resource as well. By the way, during the month of February, you can use the coupon code ONEDOLLAR to try your first month of a SchoolhouseTeachers.com membership for just a buck, or use ONES to get an entire year for $111. Your membership gives you access to all courses in all subject areas and for all grade levels, plus lots of other resources too!

On my blogs last week . . .

And on my book blog, Just A Second:

What I'm Reading - February 4, 2019
Scripture and a Snapshot - Bring Me Word

Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I've been reading:

Kind Is the New Classy: The Power of Living Graciously by Candace Cameron Bure
The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte
Dark Road to Darjeeling (A Lady Julia Grey Mystery Book 4) by Deanna Raybourn

A parting shot . . .

We typically manage to eat at least 5 meals together a week but some weeks that just doesn't happen. I can see how once the kids are older and off it will be even harder so I try to enjoy that time now. We didn't watch any of the game but it's all anyone around us seems to be talking about since we live near/in/around Patriot nation. Honestly I didn't even know it was super bowl weekend until we went out to lunch on Sunday and our waitress asked us if we were excited about it.

I love those pictures of Kennady and then she gets right in front of the camera in those candids as well!
