Homeschool Highlights - The Week of Busy Summer Days

Welcome to Homeschool Highlights! 

This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

This week's news  . . .  With the kids away on a retreat last weekend, the hubster and I had extra opportunities for dates! On Friday night we went to Washington, D.C., for a Nationals game. The Nats couldn't come back to win the game, but they sure made it interesting! We had a really good time!

On Saturday afternoon, our fun date involved meeting at the eye doctor so we could both get updated prescriptions and buy new glasses. That was quite the expensive date, but the new eyewear was much needed. We did go out for dinner afterwards as well.

The kids got back Sunday evening and our world returned to normal. Sort of.

Kennady has been working on her college class and is enjoying it. She also registered for her voice lessons this week, which took her to the number of credits in the fall semester that she needs to be considered a full time student. That's important because most of the scholarships and awards she's applied for are for full time students. She spent the better part of a couple days during the week filling out the forms to apply for a slew of scholarships before they closed on July 31st. Here's hoping she'll win some money from those!

I had my last physical therapy appointment this week and "graduated" with a much improved hip joint. Hopefully I'll be okay with all the walking that we'll have to do when we vacation. 

Kennady and I also visited the county 4-H fair this week. We were especially interested in a glass blowing demonstration, which I'm pretty sure is new this year.

What's Coming Up . . . the beginning of a new school year is coming up faster than I thought possible! Although I'm not homeschooling my own any more, I will be teaching a writing class and a literature class for high schoolers at our homeschool co-op. Kennady will be starting a full schedule of college classes in just a few weeks! But before that, we have some vacation fun planned as well.

The Homeschool Review Crew will be hosting the Not Back to School Blog Hop in a couple weeks, so be looking for that!

Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I finished and reviewed An Artless Demise (A Lady Darby Mystery) by Anna Lee Huber, and I've been reading:

A Study In Scarlet Women (The Lady Sherlock Series) by Sherry Thomas

A parting shot . . . when something falls apart inside your piano, but your daughter works at a piano shop.

Looks like the repair will require other tools and perhaps a bit of advice though!
