Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.
If you would be interested in taking over this link-up, please let me know! I've loved hosting you, but because my youngest has graduated and my schedule is changing, I would love to pass the baton to someone else.

This week's news . . . We had a fairly quiet weekend, partly because I worked on Saturday so we didn't make any other plans. As the week got under way, it was mostly our usual with a few twists - some good and some not so much.
On Tuesday the washing machine broke down so we had to add two trips to the laundromat to our schedule to make sure we stayed in clean clothes. I'm sure at least one more trip will be in order before we get a new machine! Kennady and I couldn't share our ride to town with Landon on Tuesday night, as his Civil Air Patrol meeting was at a different location. So he did that, Kennady and I went to choir rehearsal, and the hubby went to do his regular blood donation, and Spencer was home alone. Which I suspect he enjoyed!
Also this week, the hubster got to play some extra hockey, I got a long overdue haircut, and we are busy making plans for (Canadian) Thanksgiving. That happens Monday, by the way.
College continues to go well for Kennady. She's doing well in classes, loving her voice lessons, and "killin' it" in Rock Ensemble. Thankfully she still finds enough free time to spend with friends. She even started a modified version of the Inktober challenge with one friend, so I had this to put on the Virtual Fridge this week, and will be featuring more of her little drawings through the rest of the month.
Co-op classes are also going well. I especially enjoy the Literature class for its relaxed and conversational style. We're currently working on War of the Worlds and this week we discussed empathetic leads, which meant watching a clip from the opening of Iron Man. A favorite for demonstrating a character that's quite despicable, but still is an empathetic lead. The writing class I teach is more challenging for me because there's a lot more grading for me to do, a lot more students, and it's taught in more of a traditional classroom lecture style. Still good - just not as relaxing!

What's Working . . . In a way, I'm surprised at how well our vehicle arrangement is working. The boys both need their vehicles to go to work, leaving one vehicle for me and the hubster and Kennady to use. So every weekday I need to drive hubby to work (which is truly just around the corner, so not that big a deal) so that Kennady and I have a car to get to work and college. Ideally, we'd each have our own vehicle, but honestly the cost of insuring five vehicles would be insane. And on a more personal note, I feel that Kennady and I would both miss the time spent together as we drive. So for now, that's working.
Something that's not working is our washing machine. On Tuesday it started making a horrendous racket in the spin cycle, and I had a bad feeling about it. So Kennady and I have had opportunity to make a couple trips to the laundromat to ensure that the family has clean clothes; and the hubby and I have been trying to decide what washer to get. We need to get a new one in here soon!
On the plus side, Kennady thought the laundromat a fun novelty and turned our first visit there into a photo shoot!

Oh I feel for you with the broken washing machine; that was us earlier in the year and it was so hard having to schlep all that clothes to the laundry mat.
