Five Minute Friday - Time

One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.

time on my hands
time's up!
wasted time

********************

I'm late. I "ran out of time" to write this post on Friday and have been struggling to "find the time" to do it ever since. I'm not just saying that. We celebrated my son's birthday on Friday so I had a to-do list that was prioritized over blogging, and I also prioritized spending the evening with family and friends over blogging. Blogging wasn't urgent and I made that choice on Friday and on a couple of other occasions since then when I had the option.

I share that because it's one of the lessons I've been trying to learn my entire life, it seems. Managing my time. I have long to-do lists that I will never complete. I often have deadlines looming that I scramble to meet. And yes, I often spend my time on things that, if I'm honest, aren't important.

We don't know when, exactly, our time on earth will be up. It might be today, next week, or years from now. But one day my personal time on earth will be up, and one day all time will be up when Jesus returns. When the clock runs out, will I regret time wasted?

Oh, the to-do lists do need to be completed. I can't ignore the need to complete all the household tasks that I prefer to put off until another day. I can't pretend that deadlines and appointments aren't important. I've got to make proper use of my time to look after those things. It's also good to make sure I make use of the opportunities to take time for me and to be with others. While working down my list of errands and responsibilities and personal leisure, I want to appreciate the time I have to spend with people. Making that time count.
