I've been joining some blogging friends in an online book club, and all our readers are invited to join in as well. Here's how it works:
At the beginning of the month Amanda at Hopkins Homeschool will share a book theme with us. It will be a theme instead of any specific title, so that anyone can participate - moms, dads, teens, kids, or the whole family. During the month, we will read books that go with the theme, and at the end of the month we'll share about what we read. Homeschool families may want to do unit studies or activities that go with the books they read, and they can tell us all about what they did and learned. Adults and teens may just want to share book reviews.
Visit Hopkins Homeschool to find out more about what she has planned!
Our January theme is Winter. There are so many fun directions one could go with this theme, and I can think of some wonderful unit studies for homeschoolers of all ages! In fact, I will probably share some of my ideas during the month and in my wrap-up post. But the word winter reminded me of the delightful Nordic concept of Hygge and I wondered if I could find some books about that. I searched my library's virtual shelves and put in my requests for several related books. These three were available almost right away:
The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking - I had a quick look at a Kindle sample of this one and it confirmed my intuition that Hygge was my direction for this month's theme.
How to Hygge: The Nordic Secrets to a Happy Life by Signe Johansen
Hygge: A Celebration of Simple Pleasures. Living the Danish Way by Charlotte Abrahams
This book had the most appropriate title and I should be able to pick this up from the library in a week or so: Making Winter: A Hygge-Inspired Guide to Surviving the Winter Months by Emma Mitchell
And two more that may arrive for me in time to browse through before the end of the month:
The Joy of Hygge: How to Bring Everyday Pleasure and Danish Coziness into Your Life by Jonny Jackson
The Hygge Life: Embracing the Nordic Art of Coziness Through Recipes, Entertaining, Decorating, Simple Rituals, and Family Traditions by Gunnar Karl Gislason and Jody Eddy
Visit all the participating bloggers sometime during the month to find out their reading plans:

So this is exactly why I love blogs and being part of these challenges/clubs. I have never heard of Hygge and I am so intrigued now! I am looking for some books in my local library as we speak! So thank you for this!! The last book Making Winter looks very appealing to me.
I read both the first books you mentioned! I try to Hygge our home because I don't much care for winter.
This is a strange concept to me. I can't wait to see what you have to say about it after reading some of these.
