Five Minute Friday - Once

One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.

once upon a time

********************
Once there was a girl who dreamed of being a teacher. But when she went to college, plans changed and she didn't finish her degree.

Once there was a girl who made a lot of poor choices and worried that she wouldn't find love or happiness or success. She didn't believe her dreams could come true. She wasn't sure she was good or worthy enough.

Once there was a girl that was afraid that she'd failed too often and each chance might be her last. She feared the future because she might not be saved.

That girl was me.

With Valentine's Day coming up, we might be thinking about the fairy tale ending love stories, and maybe feeling like our own story isn't that interesting or romantic, or that we are excluded or unworthy if we're not in a relationship. But that's not what God says about us. God says he loves us, and he wants us to be part of his story. He planned a story for each of us, and the Prince of Peace came in a daring rescue plan to save us. He promises us that he will give us the true desire of our hearts if we delight in him. He offers us a hope and a future, and a forever home in his kingdom.

That girl got to homeschool her own children and to teach some of her favorite subjects in a coop. That girl found her own Prince Charming and has been happily married to him for over thirty years. Her dreams of a happy home and a fulfilled life are coming true each day. That girl trusted Jesus and his promises and has peace and assurance that she has salvation through faith in him.

Take delight in the LORD,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.
~Psalm 37:4~

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD,
"plans to prosper you and not to harm you,
plans to give you a hope and a future."
~Jeremiah 29:11~

I love the visual of a "daring rescue plan"! This was touching and so real; I think all of us can see some of ourselves in your words. Thank you. Your neighbor from FMF

Oh how God must laugh at our plans. I think it must be like when my sons were young and they both announced neither of them would get married but they would adopt kids to have a family. You know, girls are gross. Give it time, boys, I laughed.
