Five Minute Friday - Green

One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.

the green, green grass of home
the wearin' o' the green

********************
I used to think I didn't like the color green. And there are some shades of green that aren't appealing to me at all, but really I just didn't like wearing green. Green t-shirts aren't for me. but I like to have the color green around me and it's my preferred decorating color.

Green makes me think of plant life. The green spears starting to poke through the ground indicating that crocus and daffodils will soon appear. The green blanket of grass during early summer. The deep unchanging green of evergreen trees in winter. Lush green forests, bright green meadows, a greenhouse full of every shade of green from muted to vivid.

Plants represent life and growth, and the predictable change of seasons. When the buds appear, the leaves aren't far behind. Green is the color of springtime and the color of hope and newness, and boy do we need that! A well-tended garden is a place of abundance, and a balance of the hard work that went into caring for the garden and the rest and enjoyment that follows. Plants that are green are alive and bear fruit, and that's the goal for us as Christ-followers - to remain alive and productive, fulfilling our purpose. Thankfully it's not up to us on our own, but it's through Christ himself that we stay spiritually alive and healthy.

The righteous will flourish like a palm tree,
they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;
planted in the house of the LORD,
they will flourish in the courts of our God.
They will still bear fruit in old age,
they will stay fresh and green,
proclaiming, "The LORD is upright;
he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him."
~Psalm 92:12-15~

Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. ~John 15:4-5

I'm writing this while seated in my green chair, in my living room with green sofas. My bedroom walls are painted green, as are my bathroom walls. Like you, I don't usually wear green, but I guess I like green too. I do know that I'm lovin' seeing bits of that green stuff called grass uncovered as our snow melts.

I enjoyed your post.

I like several shades of green but definitely not all; my favorite green is all the grass and plants and blooming in spring. You have such beautiful photos here!
