Five Minute Friday - Savour

One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.

savour the flavour
savour each moment

********************
Savouring food involves really tasting it. Letting it sit on your tongue for a moment to appreciate the flavour, the seasoning, the spice, the sweetness, or whatever. Not gobbling it quickly while we think about the next things we'll eat, or hurrying through a meal so we can go do the next thing on our list. The flavour of the food matters and the time and effort put into preparing it is appreciated and made worthwhile. And hopefully, it's appreciated enough that there will occasionally be a compliment to the cook! Isn't this why we like to go out to eat, especially with friends? Because the flavours matter and we want to be able to relax and enjoy them, try new flavours, and share the experience with friends. And this is why gathering as a family for meals is important too. We have to eat anyway, so why not come together and take that time to savour and appreciate the food . . . and the time and the company.

What if we took the time to really taste our food, to really see what's around us, to really listen to each other, to notice what God is doing in our lives? Would we notice the details and nuances and be more appreciative, more kind, more understanding? Would we be more likely to encourage and compliment, more apt to worship God?

Savour more than just food. Savour the time together with people. Savour the memories being made. Savour the beauty of everyday moments. Savour the ways that God speaks to us and his love for us.

And appreciate! Make sure people know how much you care about them and value the time spent with them. Take the time to see the world around you and be thankful to God for creating it. Pause and praise Him.

Ultimately, time is all you have and the idea isn't to save it, but to savour it. ~Ellen Goodman

Let us savour the swift delights of the most beautiful of our days! ~Alphonse de Lamartine

We see God face to face every hour, and know the savor of Nature. ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

 Taste and see that the LORD is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him.
~Psalm 34:8~

How sweet are your words to my taste,
sweeter than honey to my mouth!
~Psalm 119:103~

This message is a good one. My Dad was a chef and we learned to appreciate food and flavors early, but savoring time with God came much later. And what a gift that He is with us always, all we have to do is stop to savor the moment. Your neighbor from Inspire Me Monday.
