Five Minute Friday - Middle

One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.

caught in the middle
in the middle of the action
middle of the night

********************

I've spent most of the day trying to decide whether 'middle' is a good thing or a bad thing. Which, I suppose, means that it can be either. It just depends on what you're in the middle of . . . or why you're in the middle. And if you want to be in the middle of that situation.

Like the middle of the night. I've been up in the middle of the night because of nightmares and illness; and I've been up in the middle of the night just to look at the moon and stars. I've been up in the middle of the night because I was anxious and couldn't sleep; and I've been up because I was preparing for an upcoming trip. Or my favorite - being up in the middle of the night with one of my babies. I've been awake in the night by myself, and sat up awake with a loved one.

When I felt like I was alone and uncertain, it was terrifying. When I was with someone I trusted, I could be calm and take comfort, even in less than ideal circumstances. When I was cuddling a sleeping baby, I wanted to hold that precious moment in my memory forever. Yes, even though sometimes I was dead tired!

Turns out . . . I was never alone, although I sometimes felt that way. I just needed to remember that my God never sleeps and that he is always with me. Maybe you need to be reminded of that too. I'm not afraid of the dark, but I'm often afraid of the unknown around and ahead of me, but no matter how dark it is in the middle of the night or the conflict, I can trust my God to hold me and my future.

On my bed I remember you;
I think of you through the watches of the night.
~Psalm 63:6

By day the LORD directs his love,
at night his song is with me -
a prayer to the God of my life.
~Psalm 42:8

You are my hiding place;
you will protect me from trouble
and surround me with songs of deliverance.
~Psalm 32:7

Surrounded by songs of deliverance. That's the kind of middle I'm happy in.

Yes! Middle looks different in each situation, but whatever our middle, we are never alone there.

Encouraging thoughts today. I cannot read Psalm 32:7 without singing it. That is a beautiful Psalm.
