Five Minute Friday - Peace

One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.

pray for peace
peace on earth
world peace

********************

Recent events and current conflicts remind us - the world is not a peaceful place. As long as there is sin and evil, it will not be a peaceful place, and much as we might long for it and work towards it, we cannot achieve world peace. Not by human efforts. Not until Jesus comes again.

But the Bible tells us we should pray for peace, and that we can have peace. We can have a peace that passes understanding. Peace knowing that God is in control, no matter what worries we have or what chaos surrounds us. He invites us to trust him with all those worries, and let him look after it.

I don't know what will happen in eastern Europe, and my fretting will not change the outcome. I don't know what will happen with political power struggles and abuses of authority in the US and Canada, and my influence is very small. I don't know how any of the situations swirling about in my local communities, church, or friend groups will work out. I know the God who does, and I know he loves each one of us so much, and that he is faithful to keep his promises. And so I do my best to pray and to listen for his voice.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. ~Philippians 4:6-7

There is no way to find peace other than to turn to the Lord, to trust him, and to obey. Our responsibility is to trust and obey, and to extend grace and peace to others. Wholeness and being restored and reconciled to God and others - that is peace.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. ~Colossians 3:15

Great peace have those who love your law,
and nothing can make them stumble.
~Psalm 119:165~

Shalom

that's the thing isn't it? We can't know the future, so all we can do really, is rest in the one who does know.

"Our responsibility is to trust and obey, and to extend grace and peace to others. Wholeness and being restored and reconciled to God and others - that is peace." I love this!! So many times lately the Lord has reminded me and taught me of the peace that comes from simple trust and obedience. Thanks for sharing.
