One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.
he ain't heavy - he's my brother
heavy hearted

It's interesting that 'heavy' is the Five Minute Friday prompt today, because last week when I wrote about 'carry' I kept thinking about the old Hollies song, "He Ain't Heavy He's My Brother". The song talks about helping a brother along the road, and not complaining about the task because he does it out of love.
Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
~Galatians 6:2~
When my children were babies and toddlers, I carried them when they needed it. Many times they were perfectly capable of walking, but they'd been hurt or sick or exhausted, and either their dad or I picked them up and carried them. A few years down the road, the older brothers were happy to put little sister up on their shoulders when she got tired of walking at the zoo or park. These days we all want a turn carrying our little granddaughter, even though she's usually got energy to run circles around the lot of us! (And honestly, she really isn't heavy! She's a tiny little thing!) And it's bittersweet that my kids have all grown too big to cuddle up on my lap, because if they'd fit, I would gladly hug them close when they've suffered a disappointment.
When we begin to love others as Christ loved us, we are willing to help them with their burdens. It's an act of love, and it's what we're called to do for our brothers and sisters.
When we are heavy-hearted - and there's so much in the world today that weighs on us! - we can go to our Father in heaven for strength and comfort. And in turn we are able to bring comfort and encouragement to our brothers and sisters and help to carry each other.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
~II Corinthians 1:3-4~

Thank you for your beautiful post and this important reminder for us to be Christ-like in sharing each other's burden.
loving others when things are heavy (and even when things are light) is so much of what God calls us too. visiting from FMF29
Kym, thanks for the reminder that we can carry others' burdens and let others carry us. I think sometimes it's easier to carry, than be carried, but I'm learning to do both. Your FMF neighbour at #31 this week.
Great analogy of how we carry our children when they were small and encouraging them thorugh life.
