One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.
we all both win
can we have both
best of both worlds
********************
When I saw the prompt for this week, I immediately recalled a little boy voice declaring happily, "We all both win!" but honestly wasn't quite sure whether it was something one of my own sons said, or something my little brother said when he was very young. After thinking about it, I'm pretty sure it was my brother. We were playing a board game, and someone was declared the victor, but since the outcome was close and we'd all had fun, a preschooler claimed we were all winners.
We've jokingly quoted that line many times over the years, and as I said, it's been so long that I'm not quite sure who said it. But I like that idea of "all both" - everyone is included. Both ends of the spectrum and everyone in between. Of course, in some endeavors there will be one person that comes out on top, and that wins first place, but that doesn't have to mean everyone else is a loser. If we all did our best, benefited or gained from the experience in some way, and had a good time, we've all won something.
(Now, don't get me wrong - I'm not a fan of the participation trophy culture, where everybody gets a trophy just for showing up and nobody gets properly rewarded for excellence. I think we can and should applaud the top achievers!)
Everywhere I go I find that people . . . both leaders and individuals, are asking one basic question, "Is there any hope for the future?" My answer is the same, "Yes, through Jesus Christ." ~Billy Graham
God's kingdom is one of "all both". Everyone is welcomed and loved. God's grace and goodness is for "all both". God provides for both humans and animals. He made both the day and the night, both the summer and the winter. The rain falls on both the good and the evil. God has blessings for both you and your children, and both Jews and Gentiles. His Spirit is for all believers, both men and women; and his promise is for both now and forever. Everything is in his hands, and his love and power is big enough for everyone and every need. We all both win!
Your love, LORD, reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the skies.
Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,
your justice like the great deep.
You, LORD, preserve both people and animals.
~Psalm 36:5-6~
It was you who set all the boundaries of the earth;
you made both summer and winter.
~Psalm 74:17~
May the LORD cause you to flourish, both you and your children.
~Psalm 115:14~
The LORD will keep you from all harm - he will watch over your life;
the LORD will watch over your coming and going
both now and forevermore.
~Psalm 121:7-8~
But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God.
~I Corinthians 1:24~
Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days.
~Joel 2:29~
But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.
~II Peter 3:18~

Be happy with what you have and are, be generous with both, and won't have to hunt for happiness. ~William E. Gladstone
Full disclosure: I actually did write almost all of this on Friday but thanks to a super busy few days I kept forgetting to put the final touches in it and actually publish. *Sigh*

I love the idea of "all both"! Especially the way you showed us how God cares and loves "all both". Such an encouraging post! I'm glad you finally hit "publish". Though my OCD would have made me die a thousand deaths if I missed the deadline!
What a perspective! Thank you for sharing this! Your FMF neighbor #30
Beautiful blog
I like your brother's idea, too, especially when it comes to games and family time! You said a lot in 5 minutes, by the way!
