One word. Five minutes to write about it. This is the idea behind Five Minute Friday and this is today's free-writing post.
be aware
aware of the risk
aware of your surroundings

Life is full of risks. There's no way to remove all risk from our lives, or from our kids' lives. I realized many years ago that a major part of parenting teens (especially teen boys!) was risk management. They are going to want to do things that are risky, and my job as Mom was often to help them avoid foolish risks and minimize risks as much as practical. I was aware of the risks, but as adventurous boys they were not.
Just as we teach our children how to ride a bike, we need to teach them how to navigate social media and make the right moves that will help them. The physical world is similar to the virtual world in many cases. It's about being aware. We can prevent many debacles if we're educated. ~Amy Jo Martin
If you drive a car, there's a risk. Doesn't mean you don't drive - but you need to stay aware and alert at all times when you're behind the wheel. When you go on vacation, there's risk involved. You still go! Advertisements for investment products always have a disclaimer reminding you to be aware that all investments involve risk . . . but obviously the ad is still encouraging you to invest!
We are gifted with freedom, but with that freedom comes the reality of the unknown and the responsibility to be aware of our surroundings and on guard against those who would do us harm. ~Mike Crapo
The key is always being aware. Know what the risks are and how to avoid unnecessary risk. Be aware of red flags or warning signals so you can adjust course. Compare the potential risk to the potential benefit and choose wisely. Be aware.
It's very important for people to know themselves and understand what their value system is, because if you don't know what your value system is, then you don't know what risks are worth taking and which ones are worth avoiding. ~Ben Carson
The same is true of our spiritual lives, and it is especially important that we remain watchful and aware, because the risks are very great. We can't just hide in our little Christian bubble and not interact with the world, so we need to be aware of the risks as we engage the world. When we remain aware of the risks to our loved ones, we will be motivated to tell them about our Savior and to do what we can to protect them. We need to always be wearing the full armor of God, and remain aware of our spiritual surroundings and of the tactics of our enemy. And we should be aware that we have the authority and power of Christ on our side.
Be aware!
Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. ~I Peter 5:8
Therefore, dear friends, since you have been forewarned, be on your guard so that you may not be carried away by the error of the lawless and fall from your secure position. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. ~II Peter 3:17-18
So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. ~Colossians 2:6-8

There's no need now to have a care,
no need for risk avoidance,
for soon I will be over there,
the land of God's sweet providence.
I could wait and die in bed,
but that's no way to live,
and so what I will do instead
is see what I can give
as inspiration to the young;
what wisdom can I pass?
Water ski, towed through pierced tongue
just like they did on Jackass? Though cancer sure can be a trial,
still, I can go out in style.
Amen! So true.
Thanks for sharing.

This is a very thoughtful post! It sure is challenging to help teens navigate the risks of the internet today, isn't it? Yet the same One who holds our lives in His powerful and loving hands is also working out His very good plans for theirs.
