Welcome to Homeschool Highlights!
This weekly link-up is your opportunity to share some highlights of what is happening in your homeschool and in your world each week. If you write a wrap-up post at the end of each week, like I've been doing, we'd love to see what you're busy with from week to week. If you'd like to pick a favorite post from your week that spotlights a resource or activity in your homeschool that you'd like to tell others about, we're interested in those too. I'm keeping the guidelines as simple as I can, and they will appear at the bottom of each post, along with the link tool. I look forward to getting to know you, and I hope this will be a source of encouragement and good ideas for all of us.

Grab a cup of coffee and let's get started!

This is my newest coffee mug - a gift from my secret sister, with a timely reminder to pray.

Homeschool news  . . .  this week was definitely a busy one - as usual! - but we also made progress in getting caught up again with algebra. Kennady had a couple of false starts with a writing assignment during the week, which frustrated her, but I think it made the point that starting work on an essay sooner rather than later is always wise. And it's an ongoing challenge to keep every subject caught up, isn't it? I hope that's not just us! Good practice in learning time management skills though!

Other news . . .  Last weekend was a very busy one, with Landon taking charge of the WWII Bomber Fly-in event at our local airport, in his command role in Civil Air Patrol. He was working that event Friday evening and all day Saturday and Sunday. I only wish I'd had time to drop by and get some pictures. However, I was busy with my own work event on Saturday. I agreed to help out as our coffee roastery participated in the city's annual Oyster Stroll event. Now, I know zero about oysters and have zero interest in trying them, but fortunately we did have a couple of more knowledgeable helpers so all I needed to do was cash and dealing with customers.

Two of our brave oyster shuckers!

The first two oysters they shucked. I grabbed a picture before
things got too busy.
The hubby was helping at the church yard sale all day on Saturday. Then on Sunday afternoon, the youth group had their big fundraiser event - the annual Chili Cook-off. Another great success this year, and the money raised is split among the teens that work the event, which means that Kennady's way to the winter retreat is almost paid in full already! (oops, I didn't take any pictures!)

Did you know that this week marked another wonderful annual celebration? The opening day of eggnog season! And there was great rejoicing at our house when I brought the first carton home. The rest of the season, I'll only buy it if it's on sale!

The bonfire was completely unrelated to eggnog season or any other annual event. Just my boys and their friends trying to see how big a fire they could get away with, and how many random things they could burn. Sometimes I wonder what the neighbors are thinking . . .

On my blogs last week . . .

And on my book blog, Just A Second:

Recent Reads - Alex & Eliza: A Love Story
Wordless Wednesday - Loys Station Covered Bridge
Teaser Tuesday/First Chapter First Paragraph - Alex & Eliza: A Love Story
What I'm Reading - October 16, 2017
Scripture and a Snapshot - Free Indeed

Just A Second is where I share book reviews and other book-related things, and update on what's on my bookshelf. This week I finished and reviewed Alex and Eliza: A Love Story by Melissa De La Cruz, and I've been reading:

The Captivating Lady Charlotte by Carolyn Miller
31 Proverbs to Light Your Path by Liz Curtis Higgs

A parting shot . . . so often I see the most amazing sunrises, sunsets, and other great views when I'm driving and there's no way to get a picture. One morning this week I had the road to myself so I pulled over for a quick photo, which still doesn't really do it justice.

We had a busy week too and while I saw eggnog at the grocery store I refuse to buy it this early... mostly because my two older boys drink it faster than I can replace it and it is so darn expensive. Of course they are the only two that even remotely like it so that makes it easier for me to pass on by.
