Weekly Wrap-Up: In Which I Am Somewhat Convention-al

In our homeschool this week... we learned about the chemistry of flavors - yummy lesson! I reviewed all our current curriculum (Part One and Part Two) and made my decisions about what I'd be searching for at CHAP. I attended on Friday, which meant that the kids were (hopefully) working on schoolwork on their own during the day. So my job this weekend is to do some grading and see exactly how hard we need to hit the books in order to be finished 'on time' this year.

In other news... Dress rehearsal for choir was on Tuesday evening - but it wasn't on the stage. In fact, we don't get to practice on the stage at all until just before the first performance! Oh well. We never make a very big deal about Mother's Day in our family, BUT Harrison took me out for a Cold Stone Creamery milkshake on Wednesday! 8-) Kennady and I attended the Mother-Daughter banquet with our church friends on Thursday night. Friday was my day away to attend the homeschool convention and curriculum fair. The highlight of the convention, for me, was being able to hear Ken Ham speak three different times during the day - and I am disappointed that I wasn't able to attend the second day to hear the rest of his presentations. I was pretty happy with the purchases I made at the fair, although I never did find the math book I need for Kennady.  Going to a homeschool convention always affords me the chance to joke about not dressing like the stereotypical homeschool mom. 8-)

My favorite thing this week was... watching Sense and Sensibility with Kennady. I was surprised that she enjoyed it as much as she did. I think the stunning visuals drew her in - as we both sighed in delight at the gorgeous landscapes and ocean views, admired the lovely estates and charming cottages, and commented on the period costumes and hairstyles - but she really followed the storyline and kept coming back for more. So I may be raising a young Austen devotee. Which I think is wonderful!

What's working/not working for us... I was accepted as part of the TOS Review Crew for the '11-'12 school year, so that is something is working! What's NOT working is our current ISP, and I'm hoping to switch to another soon. Actually, the ISP itself works fine, just that we go over the limit almost every month, which makes it more expensive. I am hoping to be able to switch to something that doesn't have a monthly usage limit.

Homeschool questions/thoughts I have... When am I going to go through all the accumulated school supplies and resources I have in the house, and sell/give away all that I no longer need? It's a daunting task, I'm afraid, but I'd better not put it off too much longer.

A photo, video, link, or quote to share... I was introduced to ShatterPoint Entertainment at CHAP. Doesn't this look fun? (you can view the movie trailer at the website - I couldn't make the youtube work on my blog. :-( )
