Homeschool Mother's Journal: In Which We Observe Holy Week

In our homeschool...  not everything went as planned this week (when does it ever?) but I don't think we suffered too badly.  Language Arts/English is the subject where we're in the best shape overall, with Kennady in her last workbook of the set, and Landon and Spencer both in the home stretch as well.  The boys are doing well in math, but Kennady used every avoidance technique she could think of this week.  We did do some Social Studies and a little Science.  We particularly enjoyed the composer study this week, as it focused on Scott Joplin.

This was the final week of classes at our co-op, and I have to say my Physics class was rather a let-down.  I made a tennis ball mortar, but in the final test on Thursday morning, the "innards" of the blast tube suffered a meltdown, and there wasn't time or material to salvage it.  We just made do as best we could.

In other news... Still no luck in getting a picture of Landon in his Civil Air Patrol uniform, although I did get this shot in which we can see the CAP logo on the t-shirt.  A little progress every week, and eventually I should have a picture of him in full uniform! Maybe without him making a goofy face too.  We can hope.

There was no choir practice for me this week, and I'm starting to wonder if I'll still remember the songs we've worked on!  Spencer and Landon helped friends with their move on Tuesday afternoon, while I voted in the primaries and ran some errands.

On Thursday morning, Landon and Kennady went along with friends to spend a morning roller skating before meeting me at co-op class in the afternoon.  They go roller skating once or twice a year, so it's safe to say that they are not very experienced skaters.  Kennady had the worst luck this time, because she  fell on her right hand more than once, and by the time she got to co-op it was swollen and she couldn't use it.  We figured it was probably just a sprain, but I took her to the doctor on Friday just to get it checked, and he thought we'd better get X-rays to be sure.  And so that is how we spent the rest of the morning and the entire afternoon - at the radiology clinic.  She was pretty excited about getting her first ever X-ray though.  LOL  And yes, it is just a sprain and should heal up pretty quickly.

Friday evening we had Good Friday service at church, and the teens in our Sunday night youth group did the readings.

Kennady ran bases for a bit at softball practice this morning - she can't throw or hit with her hand injury.  We had our Easter dinner this evening, and will have a brunch tomorrow that will include one of the kids' all-time favorites - Resurrection Rolls.  So easy - wrap one large marshmallow in each of the Pillsbury crescent roll triangles, dip in melted butter and sprinkle with cinnamon sugar.  Bake as usual, and the "tomb" is empty!  Even the big boys still ask for those every Easter.

One of my favorite things...  the celebration of Resurrection Day!

Questions/thoughts I have... will there be any decent seats left for tomorrow night's Bears game? We hope so - we'd like to use our last ticket vouchers and it's the last game of the season.  Going to the hockey game on Easter Sunday evening has become a sort of family tradition.  Weird, I know, but it's one of the few Sunday nights that we don't have youth group and DH doesn't play hockey, so it works out well.

Crazy to see just two titles there!  I finished both A House for My Name and A Crimson Warning in the last two days though, and haven't started new ones yet.
