Homeschool Mother's Journal: Summer Break Edition

In our homeschool... We enjoyed a very nice break last week. Landon did start on a new Bible study which we will be reviewing, and Kennady worked a little on a couple things as well, but the pace was very relaxed. I found time to get some lesson planning done as well.

Helpful homeschooling tips or advice to share... Make sure to visit the Schoolhouse Crew Blog homepage this week for the 5 Days Blog Hop. 90 bloggers (including me!) are sharing on all kinds of homeschool-related topics this week, so there's sure to be something for everyone.

In other news... to my great relief, I had my root canal early in the week, and it was not too horrible an experience. And I didn't even have the sedation. It still hurt quite a bit for a couple days afterwards and I had a sore throat, but by now it's quite comfortable. Until the next time I see the dentist to start the crown process, I suppose.

The hubster and I celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary this week. And when I say "celebrate", what I mean is that we went out for dinner one evening, sans kids, and courtesy of my parents who had given us a restaurant gift card. I was very glad I could chew. LOL  We also attended a wedding on the weekend. I was initially surprised at what I considered the extreme youth of the couple, because the groom is only about a year older than Harrison. Then it occurred to me that DH and I were the same age when we got married!

Yesterday Harrison and Landon went to a concert with a couple of friends, and Harrison lost a lens from his glasses. Other than that, they had a good time. Since it was just two kids left at home for the day - Spencer and Kennady - we went out for pizza for lunch.

One of my favorite things this week... having a couple of opportunities to go out with just the hubster.

Things I'm working on...
Last week's goals were:
  • Blogging! - Progress! Posted things on schedule, and have some of the 5 Days posts completed and scheduled.
  • Clean up my desk and my living room - hmmm. Little progress on the desk, but I've kind of avoided the living room! LOL
  • My studying - progress. I really should have worked more on it.
  • Lesson plans and schoolwork - worked on lesson plans, and on schoolwork, which was light this week.
  • Rest and recovery - Done! Went much better than I'd feared!
Five Goals for this week:
  • Blogging! Getting all my 5 Days posts up on time and visiting all the others participating in the blog hop. And some other bloggy things this week too, including a review.
  • Cleaning up - my desk and my living room still need attention, obviously. Purple Heart is coming by this week so I need to get my donation ready.
  • MY studying - really need to pick up the pace with this.
  • Lesson plans and schoolwork - hoping to get a little more done with my lesson planning, and get prepared to start classes in a couple weeks.
  • Baking - I had planned to bake cookies on the weekend and it never happened. It's also been too long since I baked bread.

A photo to share... The new VeggieTales DVD arrived this week!

On the bookshelf...
  • The Whiskey Tide by Sarah Woodbury
  • Loving Mr Darcy by Sharon Lathan (so far as trashy and lame as the first book of hers I read)
  • The Black Swan by Philippa Carr
  • The Matters at Manfield by Carrie Bebris
  • Sticky Faith (parent and youth leader versions) by Dr Kara E Powell and Chap Clark, Ph.D.
Wrote about Mr & Mrs FitzWilliam Darcy: Two Shall Become One by Sharon Lathan, and as I hinted, it was not a glowing review. I don't recommend it at all, but I committed to reading the series which is why I am reading the second one now. Finished and wrote about two other books - The Changeling by Philippa Carr, and The Good Knight by Sarah Woodbury.

A parting shot... This is what Kennady has been reading at bedtime. Probably not a common choice for twelve-year-olds, but I'm not sure.

Happy Anniversary! At least you got a few moments along last week with your hubby. I don't remember the last time my hubby and I were out alone with the kids. I really loved reading your goals. I really should set some goals for myself as maybe I would get a lot more done. Loved the picture of your daughter with the new Veggie Tales movie.

Happy Anniversary!! Our anniversary is coming up soon - I hope we'll have a little alone time, but I doubt it. I am glad that you two had some time together. I think I ask before but I can't remember - can I see the format you use for posting your weekly goals and journal. I LOVE it! It ties everything together so well. I have had many root canals and they aren't fun. Happy to hear that you are feeling a little better now. I dread my next dentist appointment. Thanks a bunch for stopping by and commenting my blog post. It means a lot to me.
