In our homeschool... Our slowed-down speeds on the internet kept us from getting everything done that we wanted to. Kennady needed to work on Unlock Math, which we'll be reviewing next week. She did work on some Life of Fred math, and I think she finished up the last of her Geography. I didn't check any of that this week - isn't that awful? Breaking my own rules of homeschooling. I was pretty distracted though. I sometimes say that if I'd known how unsatisfactory this internet service would be, I would have chosen something different, but we really didn't have other options.
Kennady and I did spend some time on the first week of lessons in the new Illuminating Literature curriculum from Writing with Sharon Watson that we'll be reviewing later this summer.
Next week we'll also be reviewing With Lee in Virginia, and later this summer, I'll review a book from Classical Conversations.
In other news... Kennady and I enjoyed an evening out with some of our friends on Monday. On Tuesday, I dropped Landon and his friend off at Civil Air Patrol, then dropped Kennady and Spencer off at the movie theater, then I met with friends for a smoothie at Panera. It was supposed to be our homeschool moms Encouragement Group evening, but turned out there were just three of us there. Which was still plenty of fun. However, if I'd known that some of the moms didn't realize we were meeting, I would have advertised a little better! I will be making sure everyone knows about our next get-together!
I was glad I let myself be talked into getting into our pool a few times this week! It was fun and refreshing during the hot days we had. If I'd known how much I would enjoy it, I would have done it earlier this summer!
Yesterday evening we got together with four other families for a picnic in a nearby park. The hubster and I smoked a couple of pork shoulders so we could enjoy pulled pork, and the other food there was wonderful. We had perfect weather too!
The rest of the week, we were rather consumed with getting some stuff ready to sell at the church yard sale this morning. We'd started sorting some things last week, and with only a couple weeks to get ready, I wondered whether we'd manage at all. But we got all our stuff there and set up, and I did sell some things. The church will be doing another sale in the fall, so we have more time to prepare for that one. Of course, if I'd known how much stuff we'd collect and how much work it would be to un-stuff, I bet I would have started getting rid of it sooner. Or better yet, perhaps I would have done my best to avoid amassing such a collection of stuff in the first place!

34 Weeks of Clean...
I've been participating in a weekly challenge and link-up at Family, Faith, and Fridays and our assignment was the paperwork and bills. I am still working on getting my sorting and filing done, so I will try to post an update in a couple days when I can say the job is done!
For Week 30, the assignment is The Computer - not just cleaning the monitor and keyboard, but tidying up the files we have taking up space on our computers. For the details of the assignment, go to Family, Faith, and Fridays. Join in if you haven't already, and check back next week for our progress!

I recommend... having some fun with the July Blogging Challenge hosted by Lynn at This Day Has Great Potential and Jennifer at A Glimpse of Our Life. Once again, I thought I might skip a day, but it turns out I had quite a few "If I knew then" thoughts as I reviewed our week. Today's prompt is that little word IF and the phrase, "If I knew then".
Hmmm... If I'd known how late in the day it would be before I posted this, I would have started on it yesterday! Also, if I'd known how few pictures I'd taken this week, I would have made more of an effort...

if I'd known how much stuff we'd collect and how much work it would be to un-stuff, I bet I would have started getting rid of it soonerIt's tempting to have regrets when we look back, whether they are little things like wishing we'd planned better for an outing that didn't go perfectly, or big things like poor choices we've made in our lives.Maybe I would have made better choices as a teenager if I'd known then how bitterly I'd regret some of those decisions. Maybe I would saved money instead of spent it if I'd known that the money could have been better used later on. But it's exhausting to live with regrets. We can't change the past, but we can learn from it.

The Unknown Ajax by Georgette Heyer
The Conversation by Leigh A. Bortins
Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery (Anne of Green Gables Collection (for Kindle))
This week I reviewed Your Sacred Yes: Trading Life-Draining Obligation for Freedom, Passion, and Joy by Susie Larson on my book blog. (Read it here!) I also finished A Study in Death (A Lady Darby Mystery) by Anna Lee Huber. Since I finished it just this afternoon, my review is still to come, but there are other book-related posts to check out on my book blog, Just A Second.

A parting shot... how long do you think I can keep my crate of school books this tidy?

Thanks for sharing your week. Pictures or no - sounds like a good week. I can't wait to read more about the Illuminating Literature and the pool looks nice and cool on a hot summer day. - Lori
